Committed trekkie here!
(Star Wars is Italian opera with laser swords)

Both are awful trash now and Jar Jar Abrams had a hand in the decline of both, weirdly enough. At its best, Star Trek is more interesting though. But the original Star Wars movies really pulled you into another world way more than Trek does and I can only imagine how mindblowing it would have been to see it in '77, when other movies didn't even try to create anything remotely as ambitious as Star Wars did. So... I don't know, depends more on the mood you are in, both have their own qualities, but probably Trek.

Never watched Star Trek, and I despised the original trilogy of Star Wars. Watched the prequels first, and even with its flaws, I like it way more than the other ones. Also, I think its characters are better than Luke, Solo and such.

Sorry to say: It depends.

If it's about sci-fi. Star Trek by a mile.
If it's about space fantasy, Star Wars. ***

***DISCLAIMER = Star Wars ONLY if it's about Jedi. Despite the higher production values, or objective quality, I don't care about Mandalorians or Andor (though I recommend those shows for people that aren't me). But I watch Star Wars to see powers: Lightsabers and The Force i.e. "magic" in a space setting. Doesn't have to be Skywalkers, but no Force... no me past 1 Season / movie (I do try new ones out... with a current 0% success rate).

The correct answer to this is: Firefly.

Okay, okay, fine... I actually quite enjoy both Trek and Wars but they definitely fulfill different cravings. I agree with @LUVGAMZ23 characterization of the two here.

(Although, I am almost a complete opposite when it comes to what was written in the disclaimer. The "everyday" stories like what we got with Rogue One are more appealing to me than more Jedi-focused stuff.)

While I enjoy the Star Wars movies, I find Star Trek to be more interesting. It might have something to do with the sheer dearth of things in the main movies to play with, since you would really need to go into the extended universe to see all the other things about the world. On the other hand, Star Trek introduces an entire planet, give you a concise philosophical question and then has someone attack it the only way they know how. So you get a lot more things going on than the whole cosmic balance of good and evil thing. That might be a gross oversimplification, but it's generally how I've felt about it.

I'm a Star Wars fan but I think the original movies of both franchises are the best.

Which franchise do you prefer?
Star Treks: TNG, Enterprise, Discovery, Strange New Worlds.

from a movie standpoint? the original 6 for star wars take the cake, as I dont much enjoy much beyond Chris Pine's star trek movies. but from a "shows set in the universe" standpoint, I greatly prefer Star trek, as I LOVE The Next Generation. overall, had I been asked in the past, I'd have leaned towards star wars, but after all the things its put out recently, I now prefer star trek, though its newest releases have been less than stellar as well, and I mainly stick to TNG

Star Wars! The third movie wasn't as good as the first two, but overall a great trilogy! Can't wait to see what George Lucas makes next!

I watched Star Trek for the first time last year. I did an a entire marathon to watch all episodes. It is really good.

But I grew up as a Star Wars fan. So it takes the win. (never watched the new trilogy, and not planning to do it any time soon).

It's funny... Star Trek was always the communist view of the world.
And then cam Star Wars an 1 woman ruined it all...
I like the original 3 movies, and for 30 years hoped Luke would come back, and then when he came back, he was joke. And on the internet he started to bash Trump. I think the Joker cool aid made him crazy...

Both franchises are spectacular, but it's difficult to compare because they have very different plots, Star Wars has a slight advantage

I'm not a huge fan of either but, my preference would be star trek.

Star Trek is great because is known for its thought-provoking themes, diverse characters, and optimistic vision of the future.

Star Wars has some interesting development for their characters and a large array of scenes which change often. Star Trek is not as interesting to me.
