So what makes a visual novel take long for each release?

I understand that, I mean.. I need 4.8 million dollars per week to survive.
We jest, but if we want (or expect) a developer to put full working hours into making their game, we'd need to cover the cost of the job they'd leave to do it.

Another reason why it can take longer and longer per update as the game goes on is due to additional paths that choices make.

An option with 2 choices creates 2 paths, then those 2 paths would lead to other choices.
2 paths with 2 choices each leads to 4 paths, then those 4 paths would lead to 2 choices each which would lead to 8 paths, those 8 paths would lead to 2 choices each which would lead to 16 paths, and so on..

So it would start with 1 path, then 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and so on.

In the early game you add choices to make people like the game, but as time goes by, you realise that was a big mistake as 8 choices on Day1 have now turned into 512 different paths you have to write/render.

Only rookies take 6 months between up dates. The true masters will take between 12 to 24 months, all depending on how much their Patreon income drops.;)

Mostly need a lot of free time to write the script, create a scene, render a scene

I feel the problem is more on the coding side. If the dev is a good artist and coder you don't usually have to wait so long. If they start making too much money then the delays start to appear.

Western VNs also really don't know how VNs tend to work. They would be significantly better if the routes were sectioned off and finished one by one, instead of all at once. That, plus the weird desire to include side routes, something Japanese VNs use as bonus routes, if any at all, along side the main ones.

Also instead of using busts or profiles like Japanese VNs, they render EVERYTHING, increasing bloat and workload.

Definitely Summers Gone this game literally one update in per year

Big props to those that actually decide to make the games but it couldn't be me due to just how lazy I would get with it.
