It seems like music is almost always appreciated in some form! I didn't actually expect this! Thanks for all your thoughtful posts~!

I prefer music when it's carefully crafted to help with a specific scene. Not the question but I strongly dislike voiced stuff. That said, I generally play with no sound anyway as almost everyone can't seem to use the right music or sound effects without being annoying.

I normally play with the music off but sometimes I turn it on but it has to be good music that fits the scene

It would be good electronic music or else nothing since I silence him

I don't care as long as i have the option to turn off.
But a lot of devs (RPGM especially) don't add this option, or mix all the sound effects in one volume...
Are you a monk?

It doesn't matter to me. I turn off all game sounds usually.

Music: 0%
Ambient sound: 35%
Voice & Video 100% in real games with real voice, but i dont want to hear my pc moaning ^^

Hardly ever play with music.

However, a well done grindy game with music can make the grind less annoying. The one standout series is Honeypop 1 and 2, where I believe the dev actually commissioned the music.

The casino song for Honeypop2, although only a minute long is pretty catchy and when doing the candy crush grind it helps.

Music can be both good and bad. The bad is when you have one or two songs that just loop for the entire duration of the game, at that point you're better off not bothering. But even just some basic variety while avoiding overused free songs is good.

I struggle to play Visual Novels that have no sound/music, but if I do I generally put on a long playlist of instrumental songs, like slow piano remakes of pop songs or something, works decently as background music.

Depends on whether it is done well or not. A Dev that curates a music list to fit the mood of a scene, the way a good movie does, works pretty well. If it's three songs playing on a loop like 70s porn, then mute all the way. Same with "sounds". Good ambient sounds - traffic outdoors in a city, birds or brooks or waves in an outdoor setting, chit chat in a busy restaurant, etc., are nice when done well. "Sex" sounds are also nice when done well - just don't use the same garbage they have in Japanese porn where the LI starts screaming orgasmically the moment her first button is undone. And I've never heard good "voice acting" - the MC and the LIs shouldn't be talking. Exceptions would be PA announcements in the right setting or "Welcome back to Eternum" types of things.

When done well, they add to the experience; when just thrown in because someone though they should have some, it's usually a train wreck (which is also a good sound effect in the right scene ;)).

I like to have some music as a nice background as I'm playing a game. I don't like it if it's loud or bombastic though

Most of the time I mute the music and play my own selection. The times I tried the music from a game it becomes repetitive and annoying.
