Actually for most people Linux is a perfectly fine option now a days. If you take a distro like Ubuntu it's perfect for simple games, browsing and email.

Agreed. Blender is hard to use. I do think that if you follow the blender guru donut tutorial it'll give you a good understanding that will translate to most tools.

I blender guru might be a good place to start. Easy to follow and Blender is a free tool. I did his older Donut and Coffee tutorials and the results turned out great.
I disagree somewhat with this. If your goal is to fiddle around a bit, sure. If you actually want to learn I'd say start with Software Engineering theory (for programming not 3D art) and principles.

I run loads of VM's. Mostly on my TrueNAS box, for anything I do not trust I put it in it's own vlan and only allow the remote desktop port in through the firewall.
For these games specifically I run a Win 10 Pro VM.
You could achieve the same with VM locally (on your PC) in virtual box/vmware...
There are many games with horrible stories out there. Quality is a fleeting thing now a days.
