Both for sure. Story completes the fantasy sex by god is for the fap.

For me the story is most important, but you also can't neglect the sex. As for multiple times with someone or not that all depends on how many girls you plan on using in the story. if it is less than ten then multiple times make sense. I prefer it this way. Just do NOT do hat K7 does and throw a bunch of girls in there and tease interactions throughout the whole story with no pay till the very end if at all.

of course, it depend on what kind of game you want to do

But in my opinion, Story have a slight edge because a sex scene with characters you got attached to feel more rewarding in the end than something that is just going to be a fancy porn scene gallery

If you plan something to go long term, you want people to be "I came for porn but stayed for story" to keep them hooked

both of course

It's "porn" VN ...

AVN - Adult (sex) Visual (graphics) Novel (story)

All three being appealing is vital.

The first thing that we determine if we want to download your game is the thumbnail, and then the preview pictures. Are your girls actually attractive? So many devs are making ugly models nowadays which is a huge turnoff to most men. So make sure you give them a full head of long hair and natural beauty.

The second thing we check is what Tags are included. Different tags will attract or repel your audience. Personally, if the vaginal penetration tag isn't included, I'm not all that interested. Even in a demo release. If you are going to have NTR or anything construed as it, put it front in center at the very beginning to weed out everyone who hates it. Don't be afraid to make the game that you want, but don't trick people who hate a fetish into playing your game under false pretenses.

The synopsis is then read to find out if the story sounds interesting. I don't mean it needs to be amazing, just enough to give a good gist of who the MC is, and what the situation is that he is going through.

Remember, there are a lot of games out there and nobody actually has enough time to play them all. So, to keep them playing YOUR game, Avoid these pitfalls that can ruin AVNs:

1. Uncanny valley or ugly girls.
2. Sandboxes, grinding and replaying scenes over and over again.
3. Engrish.
4. Stupid MC with a punchable face being walked over by everybody.
5. Unlikable LI's.
6. Fakecest.
7. Too many characters.
8. Stupid cock blocks.
9. Splashscreens
10. Textbox graphics (don't include a picture of a textbox, it really is a pain to remove for the player).
11. Unnecessary menus (if there is only going to be one choice, just have it happen in the story).
12. Game overs

Good things to include:
1. Nameable MC
2. Settable ages (If you do this, use generic terms like school instead of college to not break the players immersion with that character)
3. A way to get rid of the textbox all together

Story hooks
You have about 5 minutes to set up your MC and his situation, so don't waste time with unnecessary jargon and world building. You want to make sure you don't lose your audience to boredom, just give them the essentials and then build your world in bits and pieces as the story progresses.
Display your main LI's all dolled up in beautiful outfits. We don't need to see them naked right off, but we do want to know what we are striving for.
If you are making an incest game, either come up with a plausible scenario for why things are changing in the household, or have characters who have been repressing their desires until now. Make it believable, but don't string out the sex too long either. Once it makes sense for it to happen, let it happen naturally.
Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation. Nothing takes a reader out of a story faster than typos.

Play Love of Magic and take inspiration from that. Awesome story, but spiced up with great renders.
Or My New Family. Especially the first part. Cute, wholesome story with very nice girls to fuck.

You have options there. You could let the story develop so that the MC has sex with the girls at a sane, reasonable pace. You could also add in a girl near the beginning that hops on his dick and drains his balls for the player to sate themselves on while the other relationships develop. She could be an established lover, she could be a slut that lucked out with him, and their relationship deepens if the player so chooses.

Careful though, that you don't make it so 'realistic' that it reads less like a porn game and more like a slow burn, will-they-won't-they, nauseatingly slow to progress, romance novel.

One and done never, ever made sense to me. Interact further, please.

Now I've come up with a decent story, but there isn't a lot of sex scenes during the first few days as I try to establish the characters and move the story along at a decent pace. So I've gone from one extreme to the other...which brings me to my question..Which is more important?
Nothing wrong with starting off too slow or too fast as long as it makes sense imo.
A decent story or lot's of sex?
I get that everyone will have their own preferences, just curious what the majority thinks.
Everyone has their take obviously (personally story is more important for me) but the important thing is really what kind of VN you want to make. Eternum leans more towards story, but the story is good and the scenes are great so it works for them. Out of Touch is much more story oriented (maybe 70-80%/20% skewed) and it's not really something you play for the sex. You could also try like Life's Payback and have frequent sex with a weaker story but the animations have much more effort put into them and the story does enough to piece it together.

If you want both the best ratio is probably a 60/40 split in favor of either, but any higher might not work. There's also nothing wrong with a slow start
Another question I have is once you, as the MC, have had sex with a character are you still interested in having further sexual interactions with that character? or is it all about the first time?
There is no reason to drop interactions with a character after the first time. Ever. Unless the character is intentionally a one time appearance with no relevance or no one likes them, people will complain.

Story gives context to the sex scenes, which makes them a more enjoyable fap. I don't think it's reasonable to expect most porn games to be funny and have really interesting characters, but many would be improved if the writing was more concise. As long as you're not wasting the player's time and the story you're telling is serving a purpose, you've won half the battle.

Lots of great points in this tread. For me it has always be great sexy graphics before story but with a great story I come back to the game over and over.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I just want a lot of sex scenes for a quick FAP, sometimes I get so into the stories the sex scenes become secondary to the story
Matt Leblanc Whatever GIF

Personally, I prefer an interesting story over sex scenes. But it is important to note that there should not be an excess of boring dialogue between the characters through which we are immersed in the story. And to convey a story that does not seem boring is precisely the talent that I expect from the developer.

I came for porn but stayed for story!!

I usually choose sex over story, but a story with a lot of teasing that leads great sex scenes would be better

Both. But story without sex or less sex is nah

I know, the obvious answer is both..

Hi guys,
First post, long time on/off lurker.
I've been messing with Daz and Renpy for a while now and decided to try making my own VN.
It was going ok, learning a lot but my first attempt quickly turned into a fuck-fest with almost every scene ending up with the MC
having sex, which is fine but the story was minimal at best, made little sense and was all over the place...Ok, lesson learned, start over.

Now I've come up with a decent story, but there isn't a lot of sex scenes during the first few days as I try to establish the characters and move the story along at a decent pace. So I've gone from one extreme to the other...which brings me to my question..

Which is more important? A decent story or lot's of sex?

like you said, both are important and you have to strike the right balance. I like having a wide variety of sex scenes, and as long as theres generally at least one a day, or around that amount (more if the days are genuinely pretty long) I'm usually pretty happy. as for having more with the same character? if I like the character, yeah the first time is important but "all" of their firsts are important (i.e first blowjob, first titfuck, first anal, etc...) and even then, repeats under different contexts are nice too. I always hate when a character gets one scene and then gets forgotten about, even if it is just someone like a nameless barista or pretty waitress. I do also think its understandable for the very start of a story to have less as things get established, I just personally would "skip" the game until its had more updates published in order to at least be able to reach the juicier bits in one sitting.
