still struggling to get that reading score to rise up.. everything else is pretty good

Yeah that's....counterintuitive. I passed posting score before I've even hit 35 reading score.

So glad I found someone else had the same issue of not understanding what it is as I did, so I can read the comments here and go on my way to fulfill all the conditions.

I've got a theory I'm testing out and so far it seems to work. I think you have to keep it all in one browser tab. I dont expect that you will get credit for a tab open in the background that your not using, but I expect if I move over to that tab and spend 5 minutes reading id get 5 minutes worth of reading score and i dont think thats true. because I'll finish going through 20 tabs and only have gotten 3 score. but if I make myself use only this tab and navigate to each thread one by one, it looks like I start accumulating reading score way faster

This is DEFINITELY working. You just have to stay on one and only one LC tab. This makes sense why some people grind easy and others are here for hours and only get 3 points. you end up only getting the reading points for your first tab.

That would make so much sense. As someone that opens new tabs for everything, seems that's what has been biting me in the ass.

There has got to be a better system than this. Every time I visit, I usually open 5+ tabs based on what I found interesting on the front page. If the thread (usually game) isn't actually interesting, I close it. I go through the rest one by one, reading fast. Then I go look at some specific threads I keep a tab on. For the longest time, my reading score was stuck in the 30s. It only started to rise when I deliberately stay on one page, set the middle mouse auto scroll on the lowest level, and read or do something else on my phone. Once the auto scroll hits the bottom, I go back up and spend the ~30 secs it takes to actually read through the page. (I've also tried manually moving down a reply every 30 secs to pretend I'm a slow reader; I did it for 4 pages of a thread I didn't really care about and it raised my reading score by THREE.)

This current system punishes you for what it's scoring you on (reading), it just rewards you for your ability to waste time doing nothing on a webpage.

Well, it's different for everyone. I basically passed the reading score requirements on day one, but I read every rules post and searched for explanations of all the mechanics.

Oh boy that's a new system that I didn't see when I first joined. Really interesting though, just like the coins system. Really though, if your reading score is low it's because you're zoooomin past posts that you're on which is exactly what the mods are trying to avoid. They want to foster actual people using the site, not just beep boop lemme get plus. That by itself isn't too hard.

no because the problem is that if you open 30 tabs so that you can spend hours reading all those threads, it only counts time on the first tab. so you could read for 3 hours and still only get 3 points.

I was curious about this as I had a super low 15 reading score. I went through some of the threads and it didn't seem to go up. But reading through this and the linked one in the first reply more than doubled it.

Also only really posting any reply to see what my info box looks like as I've been so inactive here.

Reading score - this is some kind of “thing in itself.” In my case, lately, it’s frozen at 1532, and this value hasn’t changed all week. Although my actual activity hasn’t changed in recent days.

Huh this is all good advice on this thread. Didn't realize it was a misnomer and it's actually replying that raises the score. That's.... interesting to say the least.

Didnt know about the reading issues so I just have a bunch of tabs open always. Now using one mostly and it is going up.

I’ve long since given up on all those mysterious parameters; I have a browser specifically designed for this kind of website. I constantly have 4 tabs open from this site, about 30 from an unnamed one (I follow discussions about a whole range of games there), another 5 tabs from yet another similar site, but everything there is downloaded only via torrents, and about 6 tabs on various torrent trackers. It’s convenient for me; I can’t imagine a more dull activity than constantly logging in to every website. At home, I have nothing to fear and no one to be afraid of; my wife is aware of my interests. My daughter has her own room with a lock, and there’s also a lock in the bedroom where my wife and I sleep (there are desks with computers in there). Considering that I also use a number of social media platforms, constant log‑in and log‑out would drive me crazy. In general, my PC runs 24/7; I only reboot it once a week. The reason it’s always on is that I’m sharing and downloading torrents.

I have to say some of the scores seem inconsistent. Still, the coins are the real blocker unless you just randomly post replies everywhere. I also noticed it sometimes miscounts your coins, I think at first I had more than I was supposed to, now I am a couple short of what I am supposed to have. Maybe it will resolve in a day or so, but as long as I get at least one coin from this post I have what I really needed... Anyways, good luck to anyone else grinding for the requirements, it really isn't so bad overall!
