Abandoned Ren'Py DAZ My Sister's Devious Plot [0.4] [MacroxssZ]

It made it to 0.4 because I kept telling him I would fly to where he lives and behead him if he abandoned it. (seriously, I said that a lot, but he knew I was... mostly joking). But yeah... he had real problems with shit like matching renders to text.

Our big fight (the one where I left) was due to 4-5 different things that were just pure shit.
One example, how he rendered this walking scene (I had to spend like 3 hours with him to get him to fix it)

Then, he started adding text in places where it was not needed. He has done this a LOT, and while it is his game.. I made him promise that If I am writing he doesnt do that shit. It just looks bad. He has promised almost once a month for a year, yet he keeps doing it "You know I have a bad memory, I forgot.". I told him, if you need text added or changed, just tell me what to change. I will change it the right way. In this example, he added text that there was no reason for. Previous render, they were sitting, next they are standing. It did not need to be said that this is "After standing up". Let alone the lack of a period (which he never uses on the lines he adds, one of the easiest ways to see when he added shit).

Before I wrote the warehouse scene, we spent HOURS digging through asset to find a good warehouse. He showed me all sides, etc. Because I needed to know the layout to write the scene. He found one with a set of metal stairs going up the outside to a platform with a door. So the story was written for that. MC went up the stairs, into the door, then down some inside stairs. When he showed me the render, it was a different warehouse. And this one had no stairs. So I told him I would have to rewrite the entire scene. What does he do? "I fixed it. I put some stairs in."

Like his fucking stairs? A fucking ladder. Like.... seriously. You cant make this shit up.

And while I am trying to find and correct all of his fuckups... what is he doing? Designing new characters for some new game he wants to make.

In the story (as I originally wrote it, based on the warehouse he showed me), the MC parks on the street. Then gets out and looks at the warehouse, seeing there are 2 armed guards in front of it. So he sneaks around the side of the warehouse to the back. That is where he finds the stairs to get in. But instead, his renders show him get out of the car. Then walk down these huge concrete stairs and see 2 guards in front of the door. I argued the guards were supposed to be at the front of the warehouse, not the back where MC sneaks in. "It doesnt matter. Its fine." I ask if the MC is secretly a fucking ninja now since he has to sneak behind armed/trained guards into a door that is 3 foot behind them....

Oh, btw, the door wasnt even there. He forgot the door, so I had to help him find one that didnt look completely out of place... like this one.

Also to help explain why I was so pissed about the stairs/ladder... First, If any of you have EVER climbed a ladder, you will look at that render and know that Mac has never climbed one in his life. You would not extend the ladder that much higher than the platform you want to get off on, becasue you would want to climb up over the ladder, not get off the side (and unbalance it, and prob fall to your death). Second.. when you escape the warehouse, you are taking a young girl with you. One who is traumatized, and prob hasnt been fed very well. You expect this young girl to be able to handle that ladder by herself? "Cant he just carry her" was his reply. Sure... MC can just pick her up, and get on this rickety fucking ladder FROM THE SIDE, and climb down with her in his arms. No fucking problem Mac. Piece of cake. "Its fine bro"

Most of the fingering-heather-in-bathroom scene was fucked up. None of the renders matched the text except the first 3-4. He actually rendered them leaving the bathroom after doing it, then going back into it to finish their talk before leaving... like WHY? Why leave the bathroom, then go back in to talk? WHY?

Here, as the text says, you can clearly see his mouth on her nipple. Right?

Walking down the stairs. Maybe they are moonwalking backwards?

And this is the global signal for "shush" right?

Its like he is trying to test if he can cross his eyes.

There were about... 4-5 more things he cut corners on and was going to release, but this reply is already getting long as fuck.
Jesus fuck... I don't keep track of all the BTS shit in the scene; I know half the devs in the business couldn't write their way out of a paper bag, but fuck you were really the dev this whole time lol. I wish I wouldn't have gotten so invested in this. I should have known by the massive jump in quality from his earlier stuff that this wasn't the effort of this guy alone... but to guess that he wasn't even doing the screenplay/storyboarding... damn.

I guess I'm glad it's abandoned now knowing that you were carrying a flake--now I'm just hoping that you can find some way to get into the scene on your own. I know a lot of people who write don't want to render and vice versa... but honestly I'd rather have a title from a good writer who learns how to render than someone who can render and hopes a script falls into their lap on a hope and a dream. Thanks for giving us at least this much, and hope to see some of your future endeavors.

Such frustration when I come to the end of the content and find that some fuckery has occurred that means it will never continue. I would pick it up myself and continue if I could.

And I was logging in now to see if there was any new updates as I haven't checked in a while just to see all of this, it is a pity as I was really looking forward to more content on the Police station and the Uni as well as finding out more about the ladies from the club.

I agree Jojo, I found a story the other day not the best renders BUT the story was so well written it kept me till the end of ch 14 and it was not the most best story just well written

So I hope that this gets maybe sorted and it goes on to be what it was supposed to be a good game

Says it’s abandoned here:

and who then changed the status of the project to “on hold”?
Actually, KoGa3's page says this:
Aug. 28, 2023
Unfortunately the developer has stopped / abandoned the game!
"On hold" counts under "stopped" in this case, and Koga3's wording doesn't say which one it is.

As I understand it, there was some drama behind the scenes between the people involved in the game (just scroll through the thread for one side of the story), so it was put on hold for now. We'll have to see if it actually resumes or if it gets the final Abandoned stamp.

Im telling you guys... he ran off. He wasnt making any money on this game ($30-50/mo) and he was bitching about it all the time. He spent most of his time the last few weeks I worked with him making new characters for new games, and giving me basic plots asking me to write stories for those new games.

He was looking for a reason to abandon this game for at LEAST weeks before I left, most likely months. The whole Westy thing was a blessing for him, because he could tuck his tail between his legs and run off and blame it on the westy scare.

The reason I left this 'team' is because I got tired of him cutting corners because he didnt give a shit about the game anymore. He would put out trash renders. I kept telling him if he wasnt going to take it serious I was not going to keep helping.

Oh, btw, about $10 of that monthly was me, because on 2 platforms, I was subbed to him so it didnt look like he had zero subs.

The sad part is the reason it never got support is probably cuz of the lack of consistency, not the story itself. The whole core was solid for the content type and if he'd had some consistent output it would have gained traction. The quickest way to lose any support you do have is to abandon a decent project for something else. The logical reasoning with some of these devs out here is suspect. Maybe they have access to some metrics/data that those of us on the outside don't regarding abandoning projects for new ones but the adult community pretty rabidly keeps track of abandoners, tracers, plagiarizers, and content thieves.

Also if you can't afford a few bare months, don't get into this stuff in the first place. I guess the incentives are strong though if you live in a country where the currency trades weakly against the Euro or USD. Basically luck into $1500 a month and live like a king.

And it's a real bummer, too. Like @yoyomistro said, the core story seemed to be solid, and despite the hiccups, I would've loved to see how the story turns out.

Your experience with him just solidifies that you should never go into making a VN just to make money. As with all creative projects, you need to start out with a passion for it, and invest time and money into the project (or projects, depending on how you want to do things), with the expectation that some people will like what you output, and hope that a majority of the people who enjoyed it will pay something for it, and that you will eventually at least break even with the effort and investments made into making it. For people starting out, this may take a while, especially for adult VNs (sexually explicit games in general).

You won't get too far if you focus more on the business part rather than the creative passion part. And especially if you make stuff that basically only ends up on sites like LewdCorner and/or AllTheFallen, being too risqué for sites like F95 (read: "restricted"), then you can essentially forget about making money from it. That's a type of project that has to be pretty much all passion.

Yea, you can be profitable and tow the line by making a really quality product like Ketzal has, but those are few and far between. Just like with most small business ventures, if your first thought is "how do I make money?" instead of "how do I provide a quality offering that stands out vs. similar things?" you're probably going to fail.

I've setup sub-optimal ventures on the business side that have made positive returns just because the quality stands out, and I don't even spend on advertising. The entitlement some people have of thinking they can demand livable money for a half-baked alpha product is astonishing. If you REALLY want money for your work, then finish the whole project, or at least 70-80% of it, and sell it on Steam or Nutaku. You can put mostly-finished early access stuff up for sale. You don't have to go the tip jar route if money is your main concern.
