[Site News] Members+ Requirement System Update

These checks are fine.

Required LewdCoins: 85
Required Activity: 72 hours
Required Posts / Replies: 50

I think these below checks in the end won't work as expected. From the user metrics, how many current members+ or any user on the side have created a thread. I feel most don't. Not because they don't want to interact. But because they want to react to, not start conversations. So if forced then this is not that far from grinding coins via creating random posts. You'll start seeing trash threads again. Users will just post random threads just to meet the 1 thread counter. For Likes it also will create like farming. I expect many users don't click "like" on posts. I can vision a bunch of threads that say "like my thread!". :)

Required Threads: 1

Required Likes Gained: 25

Bath ErzuzB and Jack posted about the redudancy of 50 Posts vs 85 LC:
AFAIK, you don't gain LC in your own thread?!:

give me an example of what you mean
I would think the attachment server outage would not have discriminated, unless they're getting error telling them they have to be logged in to see attachments

Am logged in!

thank you

I doubt, you are confusing what you see (which is not updated until a refresh or a page load) with what is counted server side, as I can see the time online is not showed updated in real time but after a refresh: I left the tab open, done other things somewhere else and my online time increased from 24m to 44m, so a refresh will show the updated counter but the time is still counted correctly.

This is done because the website performs post requests each 10s to check if there are new notifications and messages, this is enough to know if a user is online or not.

You can check it by yourself: refresh the page, see your counter, wait 5 minutes, refresh, it should be increased.
I tested it back than on 1st April 2024 when the same requirement was implemented and it only counted some seconds. It was a huge issue for many others too.
Also another time not long ago (was this year), dunno what the reason was, I think I was comparing it with the time counting of another forum.

I am always online and have LC open as a tab 24/7 since 1.April 2024 and yet I "only" have:

Chances are high that JoB adjusted it before you tested it.

ps: bug in merged time
Nope, look:

;)

I’ve come to believe that some users even use this to get on the list of users with the most online time and have made it all the way to the top - or at least to second place, right after the bot -solely through this kind of cheating, if you know who I mean. ;)
Most used this page for it:
What's new
Before the forum update it had an auto-page-refresh.

and now i am adding macro detection thanks

No problem, Jack.
You know I hate cheaters, and that one guy I was talking about especially, because he got everything he has through cheating and even had the nerve to brag about it and accuse others of cheating when his own scheme didn't work out.

  • Activity should only count when the user is browsing normally, changing pages, posting, reacting, reading different threads, or interacting in a human-like way.
  • Use session heartbeat checks, but only count time if there has been real varied interaction.
  • If a user is inactive for X minutes, stop counting until they interact again.
  • If a user repeats the same action pattern too perfectly, stop awarding activity time and flag it.
  • Add a daily cap, maybe 8–12 counted activity hours max per day, so someone cannot farm 24 hours a day.
  • Add a cooldown so repeated refreshes on the same page do not keep adding activity.
  • Activity time should be used as a trust signal, not something users can macro farm.

I have no idea what any of this means or how it works, but I'm sure you know what you're doing - or at least have an admin who knows what to do.

You should test it now, I don't know how it was in past, but now there is a post request each 10s to see if there are new notifications and as I can see there is no tracking of mouse movements and other things, which is fine, because I don't want be forced to see at a forum for 72 doing nothing

Uhm... I don't like that, 72h like that will be an eternity, people will get married, old and rebirth before to reach that requirements, plus you are waste a lot efforts for a requirement that nobody will like and that will be ask to remove or reduce...

Sounds like were back to square one as it's similiar to how member+ was earned when it was first rolled out.

Hmmmmmmm...........

Why can't I see some attached pictures, then?

Edit:
Says some crap I have to be registred to watch?

I know, after all I didn't say it's still conting that way, only that it did so in the past.;)

That's why I wrote

Because that's the last time I saw it ;)

The activity system is not meant to count raw online time or someone leaving a tab open.

It now uses valid counted activity time. That means a normal reply session can count because the user is actually doing things like opening a thread, reading, clicking the reply box, typing, scrolling, submitting, and moving between pages.

But a reply by itself does not automatically equal activity hours.

The system looks at the behavior around the session. If the tab is visible, the user spends enough time on the page, interacts normally, and does not look idle or macro-like, then valid activity time can be counted.

Things that should not count include hidden tabs, idle sessions, refresh loops, same-page farming, short page visits, repeated perfect timing patterns, and users who already hit the daily cap.

So basically:

Real forum use should count. Dead tabs, refresh farming, and macro-style behavior should not.

Posting replies helps because typing and navigating are strong human signals, but the system still checks the surrounding behavior instead of blindly rewarding every post.
