discussion Is the fantasy genre overused in porn games?

I feel like I saw tons and tons of fantasy setting porn games from visual novels to rpgs.
But I don't see enough Sci fi, is the fantasy overused because it is more common so you have an easier way to write the story?

Depends, you rarely see good fantasy or interesting fantasy.

Most are just barely "Fantasy" and more just medi-eval + monsters.

Like Fantasy you have epic landscapes and structures, like a... fantasy. most are just "Here is some normal town, but there are other races. The End."

As for Sci Fi while there are a few, i would say it's less used because it is more limiting than fantasy in the sense... there are less assets for it XD

Fantasy is an easy setting to incorporate non-human npc's. There's tons of non-fantasy games out there to make it not seem like it's oversaturating the whole of porn games

I couldn't agree. But you have to consider the simple fact that all games/AVN are urban fantasy category. Everything that happens in them has nothing to do with the realities of our everyday life or real relationships between people.

There aren't any high fantasy with world building is there? Where story comes first, porn logic second. You do get medieval fantasy but nobody does Tolkien level worldbuilding.

Yes, but it's also the easiest to make probably. Dude with untapped special powers sent to take charge of a town and gets all the chicks is way easier to develop than dramatic family-based stories with twists and turns and choice paths.

I would argue that is not that it is overused but more that it is not used well.

We have a pretty low standards for writing quality in avns and the ones that stand out have either good story or good characters. Very rarely is both.
If we add fantasy and scifi to the mix that makes it so dificult for an adult game to have a good fantasy world that actually improves the avn

Yes! Not even in porn, but in anime/manga/normal games etc, it's either isekai shit or fantasy like elves/goblins etc, i'm getting bored of these ngl

f you objectively evaluate AVN and adult games, you come to an obvious conclusion - literally all projects belong to the genre of urban fantasy. The plots have nothing to do with everyday reality.
As for sword and sorcery style worlds - there are no more games in such a setting than in SF setting. Though if you consider the various furry, monster girls, mind control, superpowers - up to yes, in this case SF is behind. But this is where the issue of quality comes into play. More often than not, fantasy games are inferior in quality to SF games.

I agree the fantasy and sci fi is most of the times badly created. It is popular but its not overused like school setting.

Yes! It's overused! Just like the exact same house set up/city locations/tropes show up in so many games. I'd love some more sci-fi games tbh

Fantasy genre is absolutly overused in VNs. I'd rather prefer actions that happens in real world settings. Exceptions are storys with a touch of magic and mystery.

Would take fantasy over school to be honest. Fantasy can at least have interesting characters. Sci-fi can be great but i do think people find it harder to write decent stories in those settings.
