Is AI used to create VNs a good or bad thing?

It will be a nice improvement in the near future

If it's used by a capable creator to generate quality images, it's good.

But, when it's used by someone that doesn't know what they're doing, or is just being lazy, and is used to generate low quality, or generic crap, then it's bad.

I've seen a few non "AI art" games where the artwork was just awful, so it's not like the development of generative art is creating a new problem.

The future will tell.... I think we can only make an unbiased judgment in 2-3 years.

I think AI will bring these games to the next level. What I would love to see is characters speaking to the player and reacting to interactive controls more realistically.

Good if it's good AI and realistic looking (like many of the images that were unfortunately removed from here due to some Karen bitch who reported.) If it looks like a cartoon or has shit like extra/missing fingers, not any good.

It’s a good thing; it allows people who wouldn’t have created a game to make one, and at worst, the game is just bad. But if an excellent VN is created thanks to AI, we all win

One bad thing about AI that I just read today, is it uses a shit ton of power to run it.

I think AI art can be good when it's done with care and consistency. There is a ton of low-effort AI art, which makes bad AI CG stand out and attract the most attention, and I feel that is why AI art tends to be looked upon negatively on average.

I feel that high quality AI CG should always be modified significantly in post-production to fix stuff like shading, color palettes, hand/facial expressions and so on.

I seen some people make good stuff and I seen people make bad stuff. I have used it before as more of a stand in so I can work on the programing to see how thing go or how I want the seen to be. Anyway with all thing you can get better output the more effort and time you put into learning about these programs.

I don't think it neither good nor bad, it's a tool. Some people are really good at using the tool, others aren't.

I think sometime in the future, someone will use it to make a new type of game that's not available now.

It don’t think it’s a good thing it promotes laziness in my opinion

i have played a few AI games, particularly the animations and pictures and they have all been good.

eventually it became good thing [or became next regulated and censored shit], right now? rather crappy

if AI didnt take jobs from people id be all for it...

AI Love it and wish it can be use in porn games, sadly the law is trying to put a stop to it fast :(

AI is a bad thing insofar as it allows people to create games in a system they don't have to learn or understand (the game engine), which might make it hard, or impossible, for the developers to fix bugs or other mistakes made by the AI. It can also make bug-testing a lot harder if the developer simply plays through the game, and basically asks the AI to create the game again each time a bug is found, as they cannot be bothered to learn the engine to do it themselves. Doing it in such a lazy way could also inadvertently change the story or text of the game, unless proper care is taken to make sure the AI only generates an interface for a defined story, instead of generating story based on a synopsis, or based on some novel-like text. The art will likely be inconsistent or have body mutilation, unless proper care is taken to really analyze each individual image and fixing/regenerating it, and spending tons of time on testing prompts. In addition, if we ever come to a point where AI learns to create realistic smols (including the naughty bits), fiction will probably be treated as reality (to an ever greater extent), as people won't be able to see a difference.

AI is just another tool being added to creators' toolboxes to make content. Whether the results of using AI are good or not depends on the person using it. A talented AI user can produce great art images for a game - but I have my doubts as to whether that is actually easier than using Daz in the long run.

A good AI user needs to be skilled at writing prompts for the AI, patient enough to train their AI to generate consistent characters, dedicated enough to trash dozens of bad images per useable image they select for their game, and able to touch-up their final images before putting them in the game. That takes a LOT of work, but generates good results. But most of the AI you see is by people who aren't at that level - and the results are crap. It's the same as talented Daz or HS users creating great-looking models vs unskilled people churning out hideous dreck.

It will be interesting to see where the balance is in another 5 years as AI improves as a tool.

AI always feel souless unfortunately.

I feel that if we get a Dev that can really use AI, then it could be something special.

It's also a technology that will keep improving and there's defintely a space for it in VNs

As a consumer, I honestly don't care what went into making the game, only if it's good or not. If o1 (and whatever comes next) allows a developer to write a better story and make a better game overall - so be it, more power to them.

As for art becoming too realistic, you can already achieve that without AI (or close enough anyway). It comes down to artistic vision and being willing to face the blow back if you push the available tools to the limit.
