Most of those "gamers" are mobile gamers. The people that literally PAY to progress or win. The clowns that lost us the battle for non-exploitative monetization ages ago. There are a lot of gamers billions and they use CC for many other things than games too. As far as I know mastercard and paypal still have to answer to investors.
There are options like buying steam wallet credit locally and banktransfer by proxy other than visa / mastercard.
I understand convincing people might be impossible, especially in this day and age where line between reality and fiction is blurred, censorship, misinformation, overtly virtual signaling is rampant. It is only going get worse since AI can better process the data, even being conscious of own actions is a good start. At least then there is a chance to change habits for better.
They're not going to forgo the convenience of paying easily to instead direct debit or something. And the same is true for most other players. They don't want to fill out a formula for every single sale, nor can platforms necessarily even offer those, when those transfers are international and may require vastly different legal standards in what information is gathered and how it can be stored depending on the country and bank.
And that won't hurt credit cards. Not when normal people still pay largely everything with their credit cards. So you can't "force" them to change their ways due to "voting with your wallet", all you can do is ensure they're no longer a payment option on the platform, ensuring they cannot limit the platforms content.
That still leaves platforms all of a sudden with vastly more uncomfortable payment models that will cost the platform a hundred fold more revenue than the censorship did. Again, those platforms want to make money. If they have to choose between censorsing games and still making most of the money, or kicking off easy payment models and ending up with sales cut in half or worse? They'll pick the censorship 10 times out of 10.
This is not viable. You cannot personal-behaviour the problem away. You need government regulations. Nothing else works.
