discussion If discord requires you to prove your age will you stop using it?

I'll still keep using it cause i've been part of some communites for like a decade and out of like 100000 people in some i doubt 1000 are going to go through the trouble of going anywhere new, and sadly there isn't any real alternatives, man this is what i hate about these monopoly services, if reddit also requires that bs in the future a ton of shit will be lost forever, terrible site but nowadays i find myself googling xxxxxx reddit more often than not to find a thread which 95% of the time is more useful than anything outside of it in some incredibly specific community with like 2 active members there lol.

i heard they had some data leaks if im correct i dont really want my face out there so i doubt it, though it should really only be needed for certain servers and things like that i shouldnt have to veify myself so i can talk to my friends

I am fortunate to not use it. But requiring AI assisted ID will cause the platform to die. I don't understand why they would think that their user-base would accept this.

It's hard to swap off of discord after using it for years. even if i get hit with face id required it's not exactly like that was hard to get for shady people online anyways if they hack it. i'd probably only stop using it if it entirely killed itself and a good alternative appeared

Maybe, it kinda depends on if my main social / friend groups switch off of discord , if they do I will too, but our discord accounts are almost as old as discord itself sooooo i dont think they would need us to verify lol.

I don't use discord but the problem is that there's a huge amount of knowledge in a lot of servers. Personally I think discord is dogshit because it's a huge wall in terms of knowledge sharing and I'd be happy if everyone moves to some place else but I don't think it'll collapse completely

All I know is that Discord (or anyone else) is NOT getting my personal information. If id is only needed for nsfw stuff then I guess no more nsfw. If id is needed for the whole service, however, then I guess I'm leaving Discord entirely. It's a shame, but this is how companies/services die.

I dont use my discord for anything illicit. I just use it to game with friends, so giving my ID doesnt quite bother me for those reasons. However, discord does get hacked pretty often so I wouldnt really want to give it simply because I dont want my info to be leaked like that.

Many companies and even stores ask for id to sell you stuff. But its an online corporation, you say... do you have online banking, do you trust them?!, They sell your data even without your consent and bank are getting hack many times, like playstation, nintendo and steam.
Also, some are forgetting that for some groups in discord, you have to give access to your phone number witch is connected (most of the time) to a home plan, and with that discord knows who you are.

I don't know if I would stop using completely. But I would never look at spicy servers again. Considering I have joined them before, I would probably make a whole new account and keep it holy. Nuns FR and not 'Nun Fetish' you see.

That's what they say. I'm sure the verification works, but whether it's as anonymous as advertised...

The sentence "anonymous ID verification" is a logical fallacy. How do you verify someone's ID without knowing their ID? That's right, you don't. Someone or something needs to crossreference to a known source of truth. So, at best, it's a method that "forgets" it has done the ID verification after it's done. But even if it is AI, it is still possible to lift recent "deleted" results of its drives...if it isn't just stored anyway and they are lying.
