So the MCs don't have to represent me in any way, they have to be interesting.

I like to imagine myself in the game as the MC. Since I am a dude, playing a female character completely destroys that for me. The only time I have ever played female characters is when they were daughters trying to seduce bro/dad, and that I only tried a couple of times.

It depends on games. In 3'rd person games I would like to watch at female's ass, if the game allow it. At 1'st person games it doesn't matter, since I don't see my character. In porn games it also doesn't matter since it has pretty girls to hang out with.
