I prefer at least a bit of a grind so I can be more invested. Straight to the point isn't bad though UNLESS it's a dream sequence. FUCK dream sequences, there has never been a good one.
I typically just ignore all games that aren't made in Ren'py. If something is REALLY popular and in other engines then I might make an exception, but it's rare.
If the writing is bad and the renders are really good then I will skip, but usually if I feel like skipping then it means the writing is bad and I just stop playing that game.
Writing quality is what makes games stand out, this generally means dialog that is well done. A terrible premise can be completely carried by well written dialog, and the best premise in the world still isn't good if the dialog is bad. It's all about that dialog being well written.
Personality is most important. Even someone who is ugly (to a certain degree) can be super hot if they have a good personality, especially if they have an extremely lewd personality.
The first two than come to mind are Corruption and FET. There are so many good ones though, it's hard to say for sure. Treasure of Nadia could be a top choice as well.
I can't really play games with female protag since I can't identify as the MC. I suppose it could be possible for me to enjoy a game with a female protagonist if there was only one male character, then I could identify as that male character, but any other men and it is basically NTR.
NTR is the main thing that ruins games before they even start. Adding too many characters and making the story complex can ruin a game as well, better to just finish a game and start another one.
Porn can't compete with women if women are trying their hardest to appeal to men, but women won't do that. Women will try anything and everything to avoid having to adjust the way they act. Men will be shamed for AI porn, government will make laws that punish single men, then when that fails...
I always get a walkthrough if I can, just so I don't miss options, especially VN games where arbitrary choices can lock you out of paths. Sandbox games I'm much less likely to use a walkthrough.
