How long is too long for a game to have an update...?

Nowadays I don't even know. There were games that had monthly updates slip into 6 months to 1 yr. At this point, I feel like I should just be happy that there's still ongoing updates. On the other hand, I feel like most developers get greedy once they build a strong following where they still get paid even with less updates. It's human nature

I agree. I used to watch for games that did the whole monthly update thing or maybe every 2 to 3 months but year now it seems like a lot of the big following games just to a yearly release which is crazy cause I don't think the updates given are worth that time frame but hey I guess they're doing something right since I'm still playing them when they come out and people are still pay the creators.

For me most importantly it depends on the amount of content. I don't mind the creator working without really showing their work if they're going to deliver. I wouldn't mind yearly updates at all if they would come with a lot of new stuff. But if the updates are released every month/2 months/3 months and the changelog is 5 bugfixes and 1 new scene I would lose interest very quickly.

I'd say 6 months is pushing it. Once you get to that point, the game is probably on life support. Better for the dev to just put it on hold to reevaluate their time commitment to the game and decide whether it's worth the effort. Rather have a game be abandoned than be strung along...

Usually 3 months. but there are some games that update faster like Ravenous, you can try it

When was the last bsc update? :D

Fucking avalonx...

We even had a revival from a modder for like, 5 minutes... Why is that game so cursed!!

Two years ago, i would say 3-4 months.. now i am just grateful than I get an update

It's been getting worst each passing year, before I would say that more than 4 months it's too much, now it seems to have become the norm for updates taking 8, 9 months or close to a year. And the amount of content for each update stays the same, only the time goes up.

No such thing as too long. The developer can do whatever they like. It’s their work. We have no idea what other things are happening in their lives. They have a life after all. People need to get a grip and be patient. If you don’t like how long it takes, go watch paint dry or something. You have about as much control over that as you would complaining because a developer doesn’t fit your idea of how long they should take.

with good art a long time between is understandable especially if its a solo dev. as long as the update isnt just like 1 scene or 5 min of play then id say 4 - 6 months isnt unreasonable.

3 months might be enough for a chapter Maybe, but it's bad to put a deadline on other people's work

fuck man, i forgot about 80% of the unfinished porn games i played and i wouldnt even know if they got updated or not, im too lazy to check nor remember the game's names

I get to impatient once I been in a long game to wait over two months. I usually delete them and catch the new updates later for at least two updates if the story is good. Midlife Crisis I downloaded three times.

If the update takes longer than 3 months, I instantly assume the developer has no idea how to prioritize and plan work or they are maliciously milking the funding. Especially if they have a patreon and demand people pay them monthly, while giving nothing in return.

It largely depends on your development model, since we can't assume every developer can work full-time on their game, nor can we expect them to have a reliable team to help them with development. That said, I think monthly releases is a fair expectation. Each update doesn't have to be huge, and players can choose to hold off updating until there is more content.

If I pay monthly to a patreon or subscribestar then I want to get something for that monthly too.

depends the various thing. mostly more than 3 month is long. but If the developer is alone and doing sth. good , I respect and wait . otherwise I hate to wait 3 month for just 1 scene or 2 :D
