How important is an engaging storyline to you?

I want it all; a good premise, with well written dialogue and some smokin' hot heartthrobs will entertain my brain.

There are many games that I have played that do not have art that can impress you and that I have only played for the story, the bad thing about that is that you have to discover by playing it or by recommendation to know if it is good or not, as for what I like most about a good story, it would be that plot (main idea) that mixed with a variety of characters make it a very good game example: Fetish locator, plot: sex app

If the story isn't at least engaging then it's just porn without plot, and that doesn't do much for me. I would just go look at rendered images and go to Porn Hub. So it's very important.

A good plot makes the story interesting, without it, even good animations don't compensate.

Unless I find a VN with amazing graphics and I'm just looking to crank one out quick, I very strongly prefer to have a well written story line. Has the same effect as picking up a book and getting drawn in like crazy and not being able to stop reading, just better because there's graphics associated with it.

I prefer it when the story line is well written and engaging, but it's a fine line between going from engaging and too much text.

I would argue that my definition of well-written here would contain the aspect that it isn't too wordy. That's not very engaging when you get hit with wall after wall of text, at least not for me.

I have always appreciated an engaging, interesting story over graphics. Well, it all comes down to what is meant by graphics etc, but I really appreciate beautiful artwork too. I think a game needs a bit of both, story for keeping you hooked and the artwork as candy for the eyes.

I think both are important but honestly if it has amazing visuals I will stay for just the visuals. But if it has bad visuals I wont stay just because of a good story. THAT BEING SAID! IF the story is REALLY good and there are a few out there, I will stay with just average visuals. It still needs to have good scenes though.

Well, it needs to be adequate at least. I don't expect "War and Peace".

Very important, I can tolerate awful graphics, horrible music and bad game mechanics, but a bad story is unacceptable

Without a good story, the game would not be able to keep me interested long enough to get to the spicy bits.
So yes, story is very important.
If I wanted pure porn ... well, there is enough better alternative out there.

There are no games that I started for the story/writing but there are games that I stayed for the story/writing.

Very important, for me i think it's almost as important as the art style/graphics.

For me - good graphics but a meh story gets me skipping thru the game fairly quickly and rarely finishing it.

I pretty much agree with this, though I do start a game based the "premise". BTW, @1nstonE , I'm NOT spaming you with replies & likes, it's just that the two comments that stood out to me this morning were both by you!

I love a game with a great story and sharp dialogue. Amazing visuals are a bonus — but even if the art is just okay, a good story keeps me hooked.
