There has to be a good balance of story and art in my opinion. Good art with a bad story might not last long, unless you have some special kink that keeps the player base. Same with a good story that has bad art. The nice part is I have found there are a lot of people out there willing to help you out.
I typically find the art draws me in and the story will dictate if I stick around or look for something else. I always give the game a few updates to determine if it is good though. We all start somewhere and sometimes that beginning is not that strong, but we can improve over time.
Depends on the personal expectation.
A Game that has really great graphics, mixed with actually unique animations and not just stuff people saw in the Porn site of their choice + a well thoughtout and satisfying story = is Obviously fantastic, but fantastic is hard to do.
On the other hand, if the story is Good, but animations suck/ are laughably bad so much that it takes you out of the story than it feels like someone actively tried to waste my time.
Another problem is if the animation/graphic quality is not only poor but looks bland and overused because the DEV simply used premade characktermodels etc without bothering to give it a unique feel.
But then again, how much can you really expect, which leads me to a point i made in another thread.
Most Dev´s start out trying to bite off more than they can chew, they want to make their "magnum opis" right away, the best idea they have in their head without starting out small
When it comes to storydriven media, starting out small is better.
A Small game, with superb unique Graphics and a small, yet well put together story that doesn´t require a million updates over the span of multiple years is definitely prefferable, and much more achieveable.
After that more can be achieved because now there´s a foundation of experience you can build better stuff on.
I have to say though, games with really good graphics, usually also have good/ or atleast decent stories.
Even though there´s probably examples to prove me wrong lol
I play most games for the story. If the story sucks or is entirely missing i delete it right away.
BUT my brain sadly works in plain text, so i need some visuals, even if its just avatars.
However, i'm spoiled and there are so many games, if the preview on the latest updates dont fit my minimum requirements i dont even click it.
