How do you remember what's been happening in between updates?

I'm not ever able to remember. It's why I quit watching The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and a few others. Complex stories with seasons over a year apart? My porn-addled brain doesn't have the capacity.

I'd have to agree, if you can't remember what's going on after a short time to refresh, then the story wasn't worth it to begin with... though the "research" material might keep people around if its good enough if you know what I mean.

I keep forgetting the plots of games I played, and especially names. When I really like a game and remembering is a problem, I start from the beginning and may take detailed notes of everything that happens in the game for future reference. A few days ago I did that for Cosy Cafe; it wasn't completely necessary, but I love that game and felt it was worth it. I am planning to do it for Crimson High as well. The number of love interests in that VN is ridiculously high, and almost all have Japanese names that I can't associate with anything.

If its a grindy game im not going to replay it, ill usually wait a couple updates, or just pass on it, or drop it entirely. If its a regualr story game Ill go back, and sometimes read a little bit before the new patch. Usually when I open a game up after a while my brain like unzips all the info I have about it all at once. So it doesnt take me too much time to get caught up.

I have a strong/weak memory. If I make a singke connection, I can remember things perfectly. It goes along with my ADHD. I onow a lot about a little, a little about a lot.

If you love a game you should hope to forget it completely so you can play it fresh again!
In seriousness I do have trouble remebering games, especially story heavy ones. I find if I play a slightly older save that the end of the previous chapter I can ease into it better.

I dont have so much games to look for, so its just simple replay last saves for lore

Does anyone else have issues remembering what's going on with each character/story etc in between updates for games?

Do people go as far and make a few notes etc to make it easier to pick the game back up, or just rely on a good memory? Maybe just re-play from beginning each time?

Just as an example - I've just recently played a game called The Lost Love for the first time in a few updates and although I remember really enjoying the game first time round, I can't actually remember what is going on with like half the characters and so the experience just isn't the same as when I played from the start.
It depends, if I'm into the game then I can remember the story pretty well, but if the story is meh, uneventful, or if the updates takes so freaking long I tend to forget.

When the updates are big enough, recent enough or so, I can continue. It depends on the game. Some games I may remember some parts but if I like it enough I may replay the whole thing anyway. If a game has issues with saves or it has been a while and replaying it feels like a chore, I will usually skip that update. There are too many games available now that have good updates, story, graphics and timely updates to waste on games that don't draw you in. Used to be there were few enough that you would put up with it, but isn't as necessary anymore.

If its a memorable game I'll remember what happened but if it isnt ill just restart if the game isnt too big

I'll normally go back to a few saves back and see if I can remember the game/story. If not I play it over from the start if it seems like it was interesting or I had it sorted as a good game.

I can usually remember the games but i will scroll back a few frames just to be back in the game.

I hope for the devs to put in a bit of a refresher. If not, then I just continue playing. More times then I like the updates sometimes break the line if it's a complex game. Some games can take many hours to replay - which is just not in me to deal with. In short, I just plod on and hope it comes back to me.

I usually keep a save at the beginning of a major event or the start of a "chapter". I start over again from there so that I can at least understand what's going on currently in the story.

If the plot is engaging enough, I just remember. Maybe a little roll back, but that usually does the trick.
IF there is a LOT of time between significant updates, and the plot is lacking, maybe I would just skip from the beginning, and the images do refresh my memories.

If thats not enough, then the game is usually not worthy, so I realize i have to erase it

if it's a been a long time ill just replay it. otherwise usually opening up a save is good enough reminder
