How do you remember what's been happening in between updates?

sometimes when updates take a while to come out and I've already moved on

Most stories/games are the same so it's not really that hard to figure out what's going on when a new update comes out. Plus, since I like to play with built in walkthroughs and usually work towards the harem ending, picking up where I left off isn't that hard.

Does anyone else have issues remembering what's going on with each character/story etc in between updates for games?

Do people go as far and make a few notes etc to make it easier to pick the game back up, or just rely on a good memory? Maybe just re-play from beginning each time?

Just as an example - I've just recently played a game called The Lost Love for the first time in a few updates and although I remember really enjoying the game first time round, I can't actually remember what is going on with like half the characters and so the experience just isn't the same as when I played from the start.
If the game is pretty good, I'll play from the beginning, especially if there's a bunch of different story lines or possibilities. Otherwise, I load a save from a few back and try to remember. When games have galleries, that's always helpful too.

Sometimes, at first I may not remember everything, but as I play through most things will come back to me. And if is a game a really like I usually let a few updates come out and play everything from the beggining.

I like that strategy a lot.

Sometimes I play the whole game again or play a save that is not so new. Most of the time I just remember.

Oh I will absolutely do this. It helps pick up revised content in early chapters too.

I usually just play the new update. Sometimes the updates will having missing files or broken paths because they remade some sections. In that case, I will maybe restart but only if the game is THAT good.

80-90% of the games have generic story lines. Its not like reading a good book when you put down for half a year and try to remember the page where you left off.

This is why I just wait a while between updates and just go for another play through.

Also, if it's a game I really like, you can bet your ass I will remember the story

I do not play too many different games. ... and I remember stories very well.

I have a pretty good memory so I'm usually okay. Some games, if it's been awhile, I'll play the first chapter to remember the setup then jump to the new stuff. If that doesn't trigger my memory, at least it usually gives me a good sense if I like it enough to go back through the whole thing or if I'm just going to drop it there.

Loading the last save I made usually helps me.

When it's like this I play everything again

I like to leave at least 6 months or even a year or more between updates rn so I hopefully have lots of new content to get stuck into

Honestly, I don't. Nor do I generally remember which version of a game I've seen. So it's usually more of a trial and error, see if an update sounds recent, and if it is I start over, skipping over the stuff that seems familiar, to get to the new stuff, while refreshing my memory on anything I've forgotten.

I usually replay the game if the update gap is too long

I can usually pick up the story and have my memory on it coming back after starting the new update. If not its because the story was not good enough and then i'm probably only there for the renders, or its good enough that i might want to go back and figure it out again. If its a grindy game and i don't remember.. meh I'm not going to go back and i'll just put that in my DNF list.
