Hot take - every game should have an "unlock gallery and replay" option.

What are your thoughts on gallery and replay unlocks?

  • I do not like gallery or replay unlocks at all and think they should never be included.

Unlocks should not be available right from the start but unlock upon reaching certain milestones in the game. If there are different paths available the remaining unlocks should become available after the first complete playthrough. That way you can check on what you may have missed out.

That'd be nice to have, especially because some of these games are a big slog to get through.

I don't mind unlocks only happening when you reach that point, but I'd like more hints for how to get scenes you missed

I really just don't get why some people play porn games just to look at the gallery? Just look at porn at that point no?

I second that. I fin dit annoying when you have images in the gallery, and no clue on how to unlock them.

Not really. For me when you unlock a gallery and see all the scenes, motivation to play the game and story dissipates.

I agree with your completely reasonable opinion. These are general "quality of life" things that should be standard.

Yes, but it should ask you, if you really want to fully open it.
This.

I'm most likely to use a gallery to look back at favourite scenes, so I don't want total spoilers of content I've not yet unlocked, so having an option to keep it locked **that I won't accidentally trigger** would be good, it should satisfy both the "Yes, unlock it" and the "No spoilers! Even accidental" camps.

Third: If you mouse-over or click on an "locked" gallery or replay location it should hint to you what you need to do to unlock it. "This path requires Izzy Love of 10+" or "To unlock this scene try and spend more time with Laura" or whatever.
Trying to see if I've unlocked all content is the only other use of a gallery I would consider, and as a completionist, having a (semi-cryptic?) hint would be incredibly useful so I don't have to save-scum.

Surprisingly close poll. Definitely more a fan of having the option for those that want it. Having to "earn" the gallery scene is kind of laughable to me. Its a porn game. Let people get their rocks off without needing to hunt through the entire game for a specific combination of choices.

I like the gallery option, but I could see it frustrating someone who put a lot of work into the game.

My ideal gallery system would look like:
- Nothing unlocked by default
- Hints that inform players how to unlock a scene
- Depending on how complex the game is, get a choice at the end of its current content to unlock all missed scenes

I think how Stormside goes about it is pretty much perfect for me.

For complex games like Jury, I'd prefer to get the option to unlock the scenes of the LI I scored most points with, instead of just everyone.

I love when games have galleries with hints, unlock all button at the end of the game, CG slideshows and a replay system as well. It is the perfection of galleries since it allows you to unlock things if you cant be bothered playing through again and if you want just the art you can view it or the whole dialogue as an option too.

I like it when the gallery is kind of integrated in the game, e.g. as the photo gallery on the player's mobile phone.

I voted for “other option.” Galleries as such do NOT interest me. Not at all. Usually I don't go back to completed games (except for games in development, which I follow periodically, about once every 6-8 months, going through them from the beginning).
But for me the gallery turns out to be useful to realize after finishing a game what exactly (and if possible - where and when) I missed. I don't replay the game for the sake of these episodes, I just accept the fact that there is missing content.

For me there are some games that I love the models and the characters but get super bored with the writing or the story is too slow to develop.

A perfect example for me would be "At Home Again" which has some outstanding models and I liked the character personalities but it is like playing through molasses-infused concrete for me. Just the slowest god damned game possible. I would LOVE to have a bit more action in this game or to see some of the scenes but I don't want to spend 500 hours playing a porn game.

Galleries should 100% be available in all games, I get annoyed when there isn't a gallery, I enjoy playing my games the proper way through the first time, but sometimes I want to go back and just visit a particularly hot scene that I enjoyed.

As for having the ability to unlock before playing the game? I don't see why not, I just won't click the "unlock" button until I've played it myself

I agree with some of the examples I've heard here where games with multiple paths should give "hints" on how to unlock scenes that you've missed in you first playthrough.

There are many perspectives on this. Personally, I think all games should have a gallery/replays of content as you unlock it, but in very few cases have I actually used it when it's available. While I can see the appeal in it, in the end, you played it, you got it, it's only fair that you can watch it whenever you want.

I can understand why some people would like to have everything unlocked from the start, to me it's just silly and takes away the fun of the game.

And I think whoever puts that feature behind a moneywall is worse than not including it at all.
