Have you tried creating your own game and failed? Why?

What was the game? Can it be downloaded from somewhere? I'd love to try something new.
I sent you a dm with a link since external links are blocked by automod

I mean that half-assed daz graphics can very often be worse than no graphics at all, sorry i wasn't clear. I want to make a crude comparison to IRL sexual interest here about like "you dont have to be attractive, but it helps" but I can't find a way to say that and not sound like a complete asshole.
I guess you mean scene design? Or do you mean the semi-comic art style that a lot of DAZ creators choose? Because I’ve found that G8/9 deliver some great results with relatively minimal effort. Especially in the semi-photoreal department. Posing is definitely the harder part, as are proper settings on your render view.

I think most of the semi-crappy DAZ renders out there are almost universally due to not using the right assets for the job, rather than anything else. There’s a LOT of weird characters out there, which is weird because Golden Palace and Breastacular exist.

For sure, you are 100% correct here. Daz is a hammer, and hammers have their place. But not every job needs a hammer. I've seen some amazing daz renders before. Hell, even using some of the games to do posing can be really good. Cloth sim and fluid sim have moved forward by leaps and bounds lately. It no longer needs to look like snot haha.

I just mean that default daz has a very specific look to it. Without the user of custom shaders or some other way to improve the global lighting model they look very samey.

Also, what is it with people and making faces look pinched? Half of the daz creators i see have every one of their models eating lemons as training for the big game. lol.

Speaking from experience, hiring or asking for help from volunteers almost always ends badly. Professionals are way better in that regard. Especially in the art space. It may just be my prejudice speaking but Coding and Writing for games is the easy part. Finding someone who wont bail when you ask them to draw something is hard AF. Even for DAZ stuff it can be difficult.

I agree completely. I looked into DAZ myself to try and fix the art issue. There was enough out there that I could learn it myself with the help, but being a one-man show was too much with a wife and a full-time job!

My game was just to ambitious, but I had a fun run. You were playing as the owner of a bar where you slowly corrupt your employees and turn it into a sex club.

Inspired by Peeping Dorm Manager, made with Unity and renders in VAM. I managed to make the bar and some mechanics, but not more.

This is so true! I think most people bite off more than they can chew initially. Me included.

Right. This is exactly what i meant. I can be a one man show, but after a while it becomes a drag. Locking yourself into something you grow tired of like that is a sword of Damocles.

It's much more fun to plan and start making an over-ambitious game tho. I had a good run at least (and low expectations of actually publishing anything).

BTW. Here is the pub with my little placeholder character.

Yup, that’s how it goes. Except I personally mean to pick it up at some point, hopefully
Unfortunately, I don't know If I'll ever try again. If I were to create a game, writing would be my primary focus. Not only is that something I enjoy doing, it's also what I believe to be the most important aspect of adult games.

However, I spent a TON of time on that scenario. I put way too much lore and thought into that damn thing but I lost everything due to a HDD failure. I don't have the will, nor brain power to rebuild everything that I lost.

While I do remember parts of it, anytime I attempt to rewrite it I just want to change a lot of things. By changing anything, it often times requires me to change a lot of additional stuff as well. This caused me to realize that I'm not fit for game development. I'm too indecisive and can't really handle inconsistencies in my own work.

Loosing data always sucks :(

That looks really good, what did you use to make it or is it hand drawn?

Writing is easy for me, but the art part is difficult, I do not know how to make 3d images and I cannot draw, so making such a game has always been only a dream.
Need to find someone who can do artwork in a style you like. Put the script together and work alongside them. Split donos

the coding part is fine for me its the writing part that i fail, I've never been good at English even less so now not being in school for like 20 years so pretty much everything I've learnt there i forgotten

I wrote the plot for a game once. Tried to install DAZ and even Blender and I have no idea how any of the people who make games do it and do it well. Plot and story board are alright but the technical level to make good renders is too high for a casual project

I have a lot of ideas because I like to write, and I also know how to program. I would need to learn how to design images and videos. I hope that soon you will be able to enjoy my works

as many others here, the 'art' part would be my weakness.. also 'cause if I have to rip-off other peoples work I wouldnt be satisfied.
Also the limitations with ren'py and such were a bother...
