In the last... say 6 months or so, I have seen a lot more games with decent to good animations. What used to be one in a thousand quality is now 1 in 20. It's a cross between what I imagine is better daz animation assets, devs using VAM (which handles more lifelike animations better, even if I don't like the style as much), and the AI daz-render>animation tools (although these are still hit or miss, and I see devs putting trash output form these in their games).
But the problem I noticed is that after seeing decent animations being less rare in games, I've found myself seeing games I might be interested in, and seeing the lack of animation tag, and passing it up. Also, I've seen a few that did have the animation tag, and when I played it, it had the 2022 2-image back and forth slideshow "animation", which left me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Even though back in 2022, those were considered good.
I hope that in a few months, it will keep climbing. As devs get better at the tools, and the tools get better, more devs will be forced to start using them. And hopefully the devs that take trash AI animation output and accept it without trying again to fix issues will get bitched at until they learn their lesson.
