Has recent animation quality jump turned others off of games without animation tags?

In the last... say 6 months or so, I have seen a lot more games with decent to good animations. What used to be one in a thousand quality is now 1 in 20. It's a cross between what I imagine is better daz animation assets, devs using VAM (which handles more lifelike animations better, even if I don't like the style as much), and the AI daz-render>animation tools (although these are still hit or miss, and I see devs putting trash output form these in their games).

But the problem I noticed is that after seeing decent animations being less rare in games, I've found myself seeing games I might be interested in, and seeing the lack of animation tag, and passing it up. Also, I've seen a few that did have the animation tag, and when I played it, it had the 2022 2-image back and forth slideshow "animation", which left me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Even though back in 2022, those were considered good.

I hope that in a few months, it will keep climbing. As devs get better at the tools, and the tools get better, more devs will be forced to start using them. And hopefully the devs that take trash AI animation output and accept it without trying again to fix issues will get bitched at until they learn their lesson.

Not even close. I still havent seen a game that has actually good animations. Not just good for renpy or good for adult games, but actual good animations that don't morph a character (especially the mouth) or just look like ai slop.

There are definitely still enough games out there with bad animations that no animation is still a viable option.

Depending on the game, some that don't have animations are still fine, but animations with very few frames or that are noticably bad are definitely less acceptable now with how many games have good animations.

Sometimes yes, when i come across a sex scene that is "animated" by circulating 2-3 stills it feels less exiting to me than it did before when it was more common.

Ive started to notice things that I kinda didnt before, or maybe I did, but it didnt bother me. Specifically in the japanese rpgm type games, where sex scenes are listed as "animated" but its 2 images. One the base image, and the other the exact same image but with the lines around the body blurred (to imply motion) and the sharp spikes in the lines of the body (again, implying motion without actually having motion). I feel like a few years ago I would have just ignored that, but now... I think "what a joke" and close the game. I saw a game the other day that was shitty about it by using a live2d animation for the first lewd scene, then using the 2 image trick I mentioned above for every other one. Its gotten to where I filter for "animated" when I view latest updates now... which sadly limits the content I will touch even more than it already was.

Nope. Old school static images and letting imagination do the animation for you was the norm for a long time. Just because there are fancier moving pictures doesn't mean well done static images with good writing are obsolete.

While SOME games are showing improved quality there are still enough with poor quality that I'll wait before expecting/wanting animations. Yes, the good stuff adds to the experience, but it has to be VERY good. For now, I think we need to wait longer for Devs, and their Tools improve some more.

Heck, there are enough games with lower quality STILL images that trying to push animation should wait for improvements across the board.

Just a thought.

i usually prefer games with animations, but if the art style looks good i will give it a chance

After thinking about this question some more I have come up with (what I think is) a reason to actually avoid some of the games that are animated. The main reason (for me) to avoid (heavily) animated games is because they tend to be MASSIVE. At this time, I'm thinking in particular about the game 'Milfylicious'. The game has VERY good images, and some fun scenes, but with all the animations and extra (AI) images it is truly far too large (in file size) for me to bother looking at anymore. Maybe if it gets completed and goes on Steam or something I MIGHT get it. For now, when COMPRESSED versions are looking to be 10+ GIG in size I'll give it a pass.

Just a thought.

Doesn't matter either way to me for adult games. Each have both positive and negatives though.

Nowadays though A.I slop with animations is becoming the norm, and I despise that crap.

You purists might be in for a rough time - not all AI is slop - and some is rough now but will not always be.

Right now A.I games are mostly slop and I have tried hundreds of them...they all are lacking.🤷‍♂️

Could be the devs who are the cause as they all look the same, and have animations that don't look real.

On top of that they bloat most game sizes when added. So nope not a purists my fellow lewd member.

I definitely prefer animations, but like with most things, the details matter. For me, immersion in the game is the most important thing. If the animation is decent or better, then that helps with immersion for me. If it's bad animation, then it lessens my immersion. There are plenty of games that don't have animations that are amazing games.

Maybe if you are on a limited connection or something. A 30G game takes me 2-3 minutes to download, and I have a drive with like... 4-5TB worth of old "adult games". So neither downloading nor storing them are an issue for me. But... I do kinda understand your thought on some games. There was a game recently that was like 18G I think. And they were putting out updates like every week. So having 5 copies of it in under a month was annoying. But I very rarely play a game and then play updates. I usually wait a year or 4 and then try it again after I forget most of it. I only tried that one because it was so recent I still remembered it clearly.

I.... agree with half of what you are saying. Currently, I feel a large enough percent of the AI I have seen in this "industry" is slop to generalize by saying "all". But I also agree that it wont always be. I am actually looking forward to that. Imagine some of these devs that are good at stories but suck at daz being able to use AI to make a much better game. My main problem with AI content in adult games is the fact that they are not yet very good at duplicating a character. I keep checking new "shit" to see if it is any better, and nope. Girl "Suzy" will look slightly different in every image. Her nose will change, her hair will change, she will have freckles, then not. In one shot she is shorter than MC and in another taller. Don't even need to mention the occasional 7th finger on one hand. Or that the patterns/designs/seams on her clothing keep changing. Until that is fixed, I wont be able to stand AI content.

I even did a little bit of digging into an idea I had that could fix that... but I didnt have the knowledge to go very far with it. My idea was... since Daz is great at that shit (same model looks the same in each render as long as the dev doesnt fuck something up), the idea was to see if AI could be taught to use Daz via an api. Give it the models, assets, clothes, poses, etc. Tell AI "move model suzy to the kitchen table, and seat her. Have one of her hands in her lap, the other on the table" and boom, AI starts sending the adjustments to the scene to make it happen. Something like that could take a dev 10-20 minutes to do, and if an AI could do it in less than a minute that alone would make this whole thing easier for them. But sadly, does not seem like it is simple enough for your average joe to make. And whoever does make it (prob daz themselves, it was like a year ago when I looked into this so they might have done it by now) will likely sell it for more than most of these devs could/would pay (we all know that most devs don't even buy the daz assets, they grab em from render-state or somewhere else).

Apologies for the wall-o-text. Sorry not sorry.
