As someone who's been using it to make a game of my own, I definitely recommend this one. It's free, it's open source, it can do both 2D and 3D, and it is built in a way that is very friendly to amateurs like me. It's also a full blown engine so you aren't just restricted to simple things like VNs. Like if you wanted to make a full blown lewd survival game or something you could.
I'd love to see people try more creative things than just VNs so I thought I'd share.

I dare say it's a better engine for certain games then Unity as well, but many see that as blasphemy,

I've seen a few smaller developers switch from Unity with commercial games as well.

Is Godot Godot easy to rip images, mod and such? This is one of the best things in Ren'Py.

I'm not sure about ripping and modding. I'm sure there's people working on it if it hasn't already been done.

I shouldn't be surprised. It's open source. People have access to the engine code. Not hard for an experienced person to reverse engineer the files.

The fact that in Ren'Py you can easily see all scenes you missed and even how unlock them, and also modifying the code to make it even easier or just jump to another scene altogether is wonderful. It a very big QoL improvement overall.
