Nothing, absolutely nothing that requires you to spend your time working instead of doing something else deserves to be free. I myself once had a YouTube channel, made hundreds of videos, but it didn’t work out. That was hours every day thrown away. In a way, I used to think, “this isn’t essential content for people” but that’s just self-deprecation.


It doesn’t matter if it’s a YouTube video, a character image, character videos, whatever it is, if it takes your time and effort, it does deserve to be monetized. And anyone who thinks otherwise is free to do it for free. But you know what? They won’t. So screw them, they’re ignorant and stupid. Just believe in that.

That's why most AVNs these days are shit and end up abandoned, wasting everyone's time including the devs' in the process. Before shit platforms like Patreon were a thing and ruined it AVNs and 3D lewd comics were nearly 100% done just for a fun hobby, not money and the online following if any was just a bonus. Now most everyone assumes they will get rich quick by making the same boring shit as everyone else that Patreon might as well backseat write themselves at this point.

I explained my point further down in the comments, but fine, I’ll say it again.
If someone enjoys making their stuff, be it a game, images, videos, whatever, for free and posting it just for fun, and they’re satisfied with that, cool, all good.

But if someone puts in effort that they feel could’ve gone into something else, yet they deliberately spend time and energy on it, deal with the stress, and for them it’s not okay to do it just for fun, then yes, they do deserve financial support to encourage their work.

It’s pure fantasy to think that just because things used to be that way, they’ll stay that way forever. At least not for everyone.

But the idea that platforms like patreon ruined AVNs, is just ridiculous. If you want to blame anyone for those dumb rules, you can blame the politicians that think fictional content should be criminalized or you can blame the payment processors that force platforms like patreon to censor the creators. Even patreon used to be cool with things like incest, the only reason they changed it, is because they were forced to do it by paypal.
There are plenty of great games out there and they wouldn't probably exist if it wasn't for platforms like patreon.

If you went to newsgroups lewd comics were rather common, often there were cross posts in alt.binaries from the usual porn groups, which back then included some pretty bold stuff like bestiality and the outright illegal stuff from some pretty brave (or foolish) uploaders. Some of which even included a URL to the artist's own site where you could snail mail them a check/tip/$1 bill if one was feelling generous. Afaik those were a thing since around 2000, maybe even before (back when ISP's like Roadrunner and Zoomtown not only included a free email but also free access to newsgroups). And there were a few porn games too, though crude by 2025 standards (no Renpy yet so it was all RPGM and more often than not pixel art rather than Daz since that wasn't a thing until 2005). As far as great games, to me there's not that many left still in development and none are allowed on Patreon. These days I actually use the absence of a Patreon link or not in OP's as a somewhat accurate filter for whether an AVN is worth playing or not, so if they woke up one day and decided to simply ban all porn before their IPO or whatever I mostly wouldn't care, as I already have 1800+ boring AVNs and maybe 100 good ones in my collection already if I get bored enough.

From your comments in this and other threads it seems like for you a boring game is any game that doesn't have incest or lolis. It's something that it's pointless to debate because it comes down to personal preferences. Unfortunately those are the types of games that are more likely to end up being censored so I can understand your frustration there. But for the average AVN enjoyer in the west, there hasn't been a better time that this and that is for the most part thanks to platforms like patreon and SS, allowing devs to monetize their content.

Yea, it's wrong to let personal preferences color critique of what the space is now. We can acknowledge that it's more professional and vibrant than ever before, while monetization is making it more difficult to have access to a range of higher quality extreme content. There are tons of stick-figure tier artists doing hard vore and dismemberment content on panda site; if that's what you want it's there for you. I'd rather not have Ganguro Girl quality incest and non-con content in 2025 (and even that was monetized cuz it was relatively high quality for the full version back then). The wall is having the quality of content we're used to for the types of storytelling we want when PPs are not allowing us to pay for it in a way that's convenient and accessible.

Unfortunately there's no one who's principled who's going to stand up a whole payment processing company just to allow fiction creators to monetize their work who's going to take the hit of not being able to operate in 50+ countries like their competition. Overall, we're a fraction of a fraction of their transactions, and we're always going to be in an uphill battle on both the private and public sector side of the debate. Our best hope is to latch onto a principled free-speech stance for a more palatable cause and win on the public sector side that way. The way things are going in most countries right now though that's looking like shooting a hole-in-one to the surface of the moon from Earth right now.

Nothing on Patreon is worth paying for as far as I'm concerned and as such such I couldn't care less what it's about no matter who makes it. Even if all Renaisaance artists (mainly the mutant ninja turtles) were somehow resurrected and came together as a team to make it Patreon would just hamstring them. But from what I've been reading that's pretty much the new plan. Oh well, good luck I guess.

I hope he is able to release a demo for his new game soon. For a game that hasn't even been released yet, he has a good number of subs. But I doubt that it's enough for him to continue to work on his games full-time, and since we don't even know if he will be able to get his SS back to normal he really needs to get things going on patreon.

I've seen a link to his new project on "another" site, and I was pleasantly surprised (naturally, I can't post it here but if you keep following his work wherever you can, you will probably run across it at some point). I worried he was going all-in on aging (and sizing) up because of the troubles he had. But he seems to be skillfully toeing the line on what he can do and still release it on Patreon. Anyway, no need to hurry, just keep looking around, I'm sure he will need quite a bit of time to build everything back from the ground up.

TLDR: On 9-11 (not the 2001 version, only a couple of stupid replaceable buildings got knocked down then) all his payment platforms were nuked too at about the same time (within a few hours) so that made him say fuck making lolis so he quit and now makes Patreon junk like everyone else.
