I'm just going to say it. Although I do love this vn and have no problem paying a reasonable price when all said and done, I'm freaking done with subscriptions. I have enough monthly bills just making sure I'm fed, clean and clothed. Everybody wants a monthly fee and that shit adds up. And I can already hear some people " its only like a couple dollars". Well lets be real, say I'm giving a dollar a week to "support" this project. That's 52 dollars a year for a project that has no real end goal in sight. I'm just supposed to continually pay for it, but for like how long? A year, maybe two. Theoretically I could end up paying 500 dollars for an incomplete vn. And I'm sorry but nobody's vn is worth anywhere near that amount. You shouldn't charge people to basically beta test your games. I'm sorry money doesn't grow on trees I wish it did. Again, I'd happily pay a reasonable price when the project was finished. Instead of asking for monthly fees for an unfinished product maybe you could release the project with finished chapters. Each update could be a complete chapter that you could then sell. Instead of monthly updates with little content I think people would be okay with waiting a bit longer if it means there getting a complete chapter. Anyways sorry for the rant, just felt like tossing my two cents in.
I respect your opinion, but it's wrong. Some dev's milk the subscription shit and even paywall the story-content of the game. Dark Games is just panhandling with a donation cup and if you give him some of your change, you get some neat perks. If you decide to ignore the
panhandler, then he
still gives you the game for free. When it comes to subscriptions or donations for games that you as an individual genuinely enjoy, you should be looking at it like you're saying thank you to the dev for putting their freedom and livelihood on the line to make you a loli game. You, should look at the perks that the dev provides for subscribing or donating as a way to say thank you to us for supporting them. I look at it like he's basically saying, "Hey! Thanks for giving me some of your money that doesn't grow on trees. Here's a walkthrough and replay gallery for supporting me with your hard earned cash. But don't worry if you can't support me financially, you'll still get all the really important stuff for
FREE."
Also do you think that these dev's just stop working a day-job on day one? The time that you spend jacking-off to their work is about 10-20x less than the amount of work it takes to make your free fap material. So they work their day-job and then spend their time on things they enjoy. These games start out for most devs as their hobbies and passion projects. But once it's released into the wild, the enjoyment of being creative starts a battle with the stress of pleasing your audience. When the stress starts winning the battle, games get abandoned. So I say, let the devs put out their panhandle. Money doesn't grow on trees for the devs any more than it does for you or me. Anyways, sorry ranting in response to your rant, I just felt like throwing your two cents back atch'ya.
I'm in a rather similar situation - my country has been rather badly hit by the fallout of the Hormuz situation. Maybe a one time payment/ donation every few updates could be a resonable compromise. Like your chapter suggestion, only slightly different in that we get to decide the combination of updates that can be considered as being a chapter. 2-3 small updates?
What is there to compromise on? The "terms" right now for you being able to play the game for free are:
Do you want the dev to remote install the game for you as well?
Are either of you trying to express that
want to support the dev but feel that the current benefits for doing so are lackluster for you? Like, the price to benefit ratio is too high? At this point, I'm legitimately curious. Because otherwise, the entire game is free. If someone that plays the, "subscriber version," chooses the exact same choices in a playthrough of the game as someone that plays the, "free," version, they will both have the exact same experience. The only caveats that I'm aware of would be that the subscriber version would allow you to choose if you want to know the potential outcomes of your choices while playing (i.e. walkthrough), as well as easier access to replays. What am I missing? Anyone?
