discussion Do you use your real name when playing games?

[Blackfyreheir]

Do you usually use your actual name in games when asked, or do you have a nickname you always use? Or do you just go by the default creator name?

I don't self-insert so I use Anon, sort of as a lazy input and a joke. However, if it's a pokemon like game, I might use "Red" as a nod to the original Blue/Red version for Gameboy.
P.S. I also use the default name given too if there is one.

Haha, imagining other characters calling the main character 'Anon' is pretty funny. For me, it depends on the game, sometimes I like to self-insert, but in other games I prefer keeping the default name to watch the character's story play out.

I know some games actually use the name "Anon". I don't know who started it but it kinda stuck to me as a funny thing for character names. I think Omega Factoral, that dystopian game with the robot girl uses the Anon as the default name.

Yeah, and I feel like 'Anon' actually fits some games where the MC's name doesn't really add or remove anything from the story.

[dolmayob]

I happen to use "anon" too, don't know why but it feels okay
Maybe its some of the boards legacy like 4chan speaking in me cause anon feels like the most general name/pronoun/n-person word to fill all the needs :/

[dolmayob]

It feels awkward for me only in games which make u fill the name and surname

[asteris205]

I have a specially made one for games. No, it's not this one, it wouldn't fit in a conversation

[ayakammooodds]

Just use the default names

Same, it drives me up the wall when some AVNs don't have a default name and I have to dust off my chip fingers to type lol

Same thing here. It's an uncommon name, but I've surprisingly run into 2 games where it's used and made things pretty confusing

I have gone through a few different character names over the years, but I never use the default for MC. Occasionally I'll change the LIs, but I'm usually too lazy or creative for that.

[Bolda56]

i change the name most times with other names, except when the names are cool

[Lucy0]

I rarely use my own name. I always use random names. But tbh even if it could be weird, it has happened before that I used my own name for games that I really liked lmao

[Sharpened]

Fuck no. Using my name makes it weird and I'd hate to see it even on other characters. I either use the default name if there is one, or 'Laddie' because it makes me think someone with an Irish accent is talking.

[ddaytz]

All the time, but I shorten it.
