Do you think hand holding in games is ruining the games we play ?

Hmm, it really depends. If I just want to turn off my brain and enjoy the story then I very much welcome the handholding, especially after a long day.
But if I want to be truly immersed in the game and fck around and find out, then would prefer without the handholding.

Unprotected handholding is very lewd.

as always, "it depends". I don't mind if its in the beginning of the game or in a tutorial to show you how everything works, its fine in that context.
If its completely in your face, like having a million map markers, button prompts, tips, etc that can't be turned off, then it detracts from the immersion and enjoyment.
i don't mind quality of life features that help to streamline and improve gameplay, thus saving time - but some of these "features" do get a bit intrusive.
as other lurkers have pointed out its also fine ,when implemented properly, as a soft guide or a useful game mechanic.

For me it makes the game less immersive. Ultimately it ends with me just skipping dialogues and mindlessly following markers until I get bored and drop the game.

I remember playing Morrowind for the first time. Oh boy, what a ride it was. You had to read all the dialogues, journal entries, map markers, door labels etc. You had to make notes. And you know what? After all those years I still consider Morrowind one of the best and most engaging RPGs I've ever played.
100% agree with this, felt slow when first playing it but goddamn it became my favorite entry in the Elder scrolls series.

I’m am way, Way, WAY too fucking old to play games where I have to…

-explore a huge fucking map
-click on a huge cast of characters
-respond THE proper way as if I’m psychically linked to the dev
-do RNG after RNG in the HOPES of a drop / event

…in the hopes of progressing the story… for AAA games, let alone porn.

Sure, have the Walkthrough toggled off for the people that love the above.

Me? No WT. No play. ESPECIALLY for Porn games. Fuck. If everyone didn’t hate the tag, ergo, devs lie about it, I’d “play” exclusively Kinetic Games, or, at best “meet and fuck” games where the “choice” is 1-Fuck, 2-Do not fuck.

Sidebar: I have a “no thanks” of Devs that I will never play because they block Mods and I HAVE to do the above way.

It’s THEIR game… absolutely.
More importantly…
It’s MY time.

You guys can enjoy those games. I’ll “hard pass” them.

This is a very fair point imo as well - there are too many drains on my time to spend hours and hours on the *chance* I'll make progress. When I was younger, that'd be an advantage, but now, that time is too valuable.

Hand holding go hand in hand with Head Pats and Tummy Rubs otherwise it'd definitely ruin the game.

In non-sexual games, kind of but not really. I don’t see heavy hand holding in most of the games I play, most recently V Rising doesn’t really have a tutorial.

Also I thought you meant like holding hands at first, I was so confused.

I agree that too many markings can ruin the visuals of the game, in my opinion it’s best to make highlighting when hovering like in the game The Last Oasis Before Chastity

I thought you meant characters holding hands lol.

Sometimes a little tutorial is alright. I'm cool with it as long as it isn't teaching me how to walk in baby steps for 10 minutes or acting as if I can't read.

Gamers today don't even have to dig through the source code to begin to understand what is going on.

I think a little hand holding is fine if it's disguised as part of the game world.

i wouldnt mind it if there was an option to enable/disable it, so everyone is happy

Sometimes lots of map markers and indicators are too much imo but i dont mind some painted walls indicating we can climb or something what do you guys think ?
You dont remember the times where people ran around against every surface trying to figure out what's interactable and where all the invisible walls are. The issue isn't the paint it's trying to make the paint look more natural without giving up the visual information of climbable from just a passing glance.

Hand holding in games would be fine if it was only on the lower difficulties imo

I think it's reducing the next generation of gamers' problem solving skills. But I also think hardlocking content behind challenges is something to be avoided. Give me multiple ways to solve problems in games, instead of an easy mode built into the game with hand-holding. One great example of how to do it right was some of the earlier Prince of Persia games.
