discussion Do you prefer playing a VN with a Walkthrough Mod. Why/why not?

I haven't played VNs for ages. At first, scenario driven games had some appeal, but at some point, the limitations became too suffocating. Returning to limited and rigid choices after playing sandbox games is kinda impossible for me.
I'd prefer to use an AI chat rpg to *any* VN now.

Right? I can appreciate branching story lines, but at a certain I think devs can go a bit overboard and I at least like knowing if a decision is consequential or not. Trying to figure out what the dev thinks is the 'right' path for a given playthough can be frustrating sometimes

right especially when it's a choice of opinion. my opinion will always be different than dev so just getting punished because devs and my opinion dosent match is crazy

I usually prefer playing with a walkthrough mod to make sure I get the best choices; however, there are some games where I have a save without the mod.

Yes because i want the best outcome. Sometimes the choice is completely diffrent then writen. You press the first choice and in the next text the "character" says it so dry or meaningfull that i think i pressed the wrong choice. Sometimes i play games with ntr tag or sharing. I want to play the shraing route without cuck or ntr. When you press just one choice and in the future you cant go back from the Cuck Route even you dont want it.
Example: i want to see the cum leak out from the wifes pussy. Next step i am in the cuck route just i wantet to see the content. But i dont like to get cucked or lick the cum etc.

yeah, that's kind of what I meant for mine too. Sometimes stuff that I like is out of the way or hidden behind some obscure choices, so a walkthrough is nice sometimes

Many VN contain scenes that are unnecessary or seem to lead nowhere. If the grind are the crimes of sandboxs, then not having a walkthrough is the crime of visual novels.

And some dev make their own walkthrough, this is nice too

I use them whenever possible. I really prefer knowing what branches and character outcomes each dialogue option/choice leads to ahead of time as there are some kinks/fetishes/themes I'm not keen on. Big waste of time if you do it normally only to end up with unwanted scenes.

This is the way. also some games dont update often so if a game has a gallery, you can always look at the gallery to catch up when a game does update.
