I prefer faceless MC.
If the camera is free-moving, like in the Illusion games, faceless would be a bit weird, so I can live with it in those games, although I'd prefer a faceless POV variant in those games too.
No faceless is terrible from the wierd close up 1st person kissing with the tongue trying to lick the screen from the inside to plants and lamps blocking MCs face or strange angles to manoeuvre his face out.
Faceless MC also tend to be passengers in their own story.
Just no, hate it.
i dont think having a face to the MC necessarily "kills" the experience in and of itself, but depending on how goofy they look, it might. so faceless mc it is ...?
