rpgm are not really my cup of tea either.

I Ignore them because it's not my style :)

not in general i hate that some have no mouse support and save system and i would definitly prefer renpy

RPGM gave us Karryn's Prison and Summer Memories.
The engine is not the problem.

As always, execution is more important than engine. VN garbage like office wife/lily of the valley? Absolutely, idiotic choice of engine and horrible to play. Games that actually use its strengths like encode encore or summer/winter memories? Great. Even wicked rouge is RPGM and it definitely doesn't suffer from the engine.

hate is a strong word, but i do dislike most of them

Only reason I'd almost instantly hate on a rpgm game is if they have a large playable map, and almost nothing in it is interactable. I've tried plenty games where they didn't even bother making the signposts readable. Extra minus if there's no viewable map or fast travel when the map is too large. Otherwise rpgm can be pretty good. Karryn's prison, Treasure of Nadia or Succulence are good examples. Or if you want non-porn examples you have LISA or To The Moon. It's not that the engine is bad, it's that people start it because they think it looks easy to make something in. But then they don't have the knowledge, time or effort to make something worthwhile out of it.
(note: I still prefer most other engines)

They do lean towards bad, so I lean towards avoiding them

Every once in a while I take the plunge once more... and I'm generally greeted once more with the same issues of why I call them bad

Shame too when the work clearly has a lot of effort put into it, but the engine itself makes it unplayble...

Overall, yes. But ther are some gems, Like Treasure of Nadia and Demon Deals, so...

While hate is a strong word, there are way too many RPGM games with obnoxious gameplay and mechanics but great art, where you have to either suffer through the bad gameplay or forego the art, that would've been soooooo much better off as a simple renpy story-mode style game.

I don’t get RPGM games. I just hate wasting time grinding stats. And sadly RPGM games tend to have that feature. But there are some very good ones with out grind: Demon Deals and zombie retreat are two.

I hate the engine with passion. I wish every single good RPGM games had Ren'py ports.

Usually too grindy, sometimes buggy, awful controls, super limiting, and is almost always surpassed by other engines.
