Depends on the first minutes. If the story seems realistic and if the character motivations are comprehensible, I can take the time to read the story. If it goes directly to sex scenes too easily, I can go through the scenes quickly and even sometimes just quit and delete.

it's time-consuming sometimes, storytelling is fine but the rules apply like in any medium "Show, don't tell"

Rarely read them. I mostly rush through right off the bat to see what the game is like. If the game is nice and looks interesting then I read a little. If it's awesome then I start really reading. That doesn't happend a lot -_-

I'll echo what most are saying. If the story is good, I'll read the text and the game will gravitate to the top of my list. For me immersion is important in enjoying a VN.

If the story is crap but the visuals are good, I'll just skip through until I completely lose interest and delete it. I rarely stuck with VNs like that for long.

I do enjoy reading, but there is a staggering amount of developers who are absolutely rubbish at writing.
Not just the content of the story, but the sentence structure/grammar too. Often times they just ramble on and on with things that don't even matter; they don't know how to edit themselves.
In those cases, I usually just slam CTRL and skip everything :/

You know there is this magical thing called.. pornography? it has no text to read and it's 100% "scenes"

I start, but when the story doesn't look interesting I start to skip. If it's too much read without anything happening, i start to skip. If I'm viewing a incest story and mc starts to fuck other girls that are not family, without any build up, I start to skip too...

This thread started off rough, but then more sane people started talking about how important the story is to the game. *whew* I was starting to reconsider my current hobby.

Yes, I always read the story. Only if the writing becomes redundant or nonsensical do I skip conversations. If I find myself doing that more than a couple times in a release, I delete the game. Like others have said, there's plenty of places to find nice looking images without a story. I don't need to download several hundred megs (or sometimes much more) of a game just to look at [some of] the images.

Yes the story is important for my arousal.
Without story I could watch porn.
But of course. If the story, writing, plot etc is bad, I skip. If the scenes hot as fuck I skip to the next. If not. I delete it.
