but god damn I've seen some 5s that have had me question if people are fucking stupid.
This, oh my god, this sooooo hard....

I tend to ignore ratings, I look at the description more than anything. I can USUALLY assume that if the game author wrote the description, and it is clear, concise, informative, and in understandable English, that the game is at least somewhat likely to match. Then I look at the tags. If I see any there I'm not fond of, I check to see if they are avoidable. Ratings do not always, or even usually, actually reflect the quality of the game. I've seen total dogshit games get high ratings because the render quality was good, or because you fuck everything with a vagina and a few things without, or because it's a niche fetish and the fans of said fetish will hype it up like the freaking holy grail....

I have ignored ratings/stars and DL'd anyway but come to realize that the ratings are quite fair and unless my inventory is really dry, I don't bother with low rated games.

Not usually it would have to be a very lowly rated game to do so. I'm talking about one star out of five ratings.

I don't trust meta-critic scores either as the negative and positive scores are always biased garbage.

It's definitely a factor for me, but not the end-all-be-all. All it really does it put games to the top of the list, but i'll read reviews, and I'll take the occasional gamble based on the descriptions

In terms of Porn games I tend to download based on the sample images, character models, and the summary of the story. I don't tend to give the reviews much attention tbh. I know my tastes can sometimes be quite different from the norm, so I would rather decide for myself.

For regular games, I do take them into account a little, but its also a similar situation of deciding for myself. The benefit with non-porn games is that you can often lookup playthroughs and things on youtube and get a good feel for a game before you buy

not realy i look at what previews are shown and the tags. if i like what i am seeing i will try it out and see from there

Yes. Time is limited and there is too many games to experiment. Ratings should be written by people that have plenty of knowledge of the game and can describe the positive and the negative remarks.
Remember to always review your games.

When I started getting into games I didn't understand all the tags. "What the fuck does NTR mean? Why is there a FFM tag here? WTF?"
Back then on FXXZone I sorted by highest rated and then picked the ones that looked best.

After playing for a while I realized what kinds of games I did and didn't like and started using tags.
So I still use ratings as a guideline, but more of a priority:

1. Tags first.
2. Then ratings.
3. Then "newest"

If I am on the fence of the about whether or not to try a game because I find the tags or overview unable to give me enough info to decide, then ill check out the ratings, but its the review that will help me decide. In most cases though, if there is no sandbox and it uses an engine i prefer, i will try any vn that doesnt include tags ive zero interest in. on the other hand, if a game has really good reviews and is a tad sandbox heavy, well then i look to see if there is a wt mod for the sandbox, because i detest running back and forth trying sliding my cursor all over a screen talking to every damned character 100 times to get back to the story.

Of course, I look at reviews (unless they consist of -3 sentences) that contain a detailed analysis of the game, I look at discussions, even if they consist of hundreds of pages. I've downloaded too much garbage at different times, I don't want to repeat this.
Alas, this resource is not distinguished by the quality of game reviews, so I use evaluations from a competing resource. At least there longreads are not an exception, but a rule.

I take a 3 step approach when coming up to a new game. Check tags, check rating, then check preview pics. Sometimes you enjoy things most people do not so revies aren't everything, BUT they do a good job of warning you from any dev fuckery in the story.

For me personally yes it has a major factor in what games I try. If its got all the tags I like but its less than 2.5 I won't even bother "Unless", when going into the replies I see that a recent update or updates has changed things and the old ratings are still messing with it.

I usually don't look at ratings unless there's an NTR tag on the game, I like to form my own opinions

When looking at games, do you pay attention to the ratings?

If so, do 'low' ratings make you less likely to download a game?

What are your thresholds for being wary of, or even not downloading a game, based on its rating?

Personally, when there's enough ratings, I generally am wary of anything below a 4/5, and unless in an exceptional situation probably wouldn't download a game under 3.5/5.
For sure, bad reviews too

Tags and Comments are deciding factor. Other peoples opinions (ratings) are generally wrong so not useful
Those Red flags are super obnoxious, In a female protag game I'm willing to lower my requirements for NTR. Ratings are a pretty good sense of does the audience like the game and usually anything as low as a 2* is going to have issues.

not really, i always check tags, dev note or comments and even then, i sometimes just check it myself.
