For me animations are a must, kinda sucks to be browsing old games that seem interesting and then realizing that they are static, huge bummer

I prefer to have animations, but it takes a lot of time a work to get them right. I've seen it done wrong a few times.

Bad animations hurt the game, but good animations with good stills mixed in I think is the best way.

Good animations can take a game with a mediocre story and make it great. I like the DK animations made in VAM - are there many other devs who create their animations from VAM scenes?

Good animation with bad art/models is worse than good art with no animation.

Obviously animation improves the game, but many make bad animation, which on the contrary ruins the game :censored:

I cannot give a definite answer to this question. There are games with good graphics and good animation that go to the trash after 40 minutes of gameplay because of the idiocy of the plot or because of boring gameplay. And there are games with almost no graphics, only with text, which are fascinating and which you want to go through to the end. Everything is determined by the talent of the developer.

It depends. Most times I'd say yes as it can add to expanding characters expressions and personality. Sometimes it can get messy especially if it's too flashy with next to no substance

Sometimes it feels like animations end up taking most of the effort and the rest of an update is minimal at best. So i suppose it depends on the dev/team. Story or plot is where its at imho.
