Nah it wont destroy any other payment processor but it's a good alternative way to buy the sites games.

Agreed.

To destroy payment processors like Visa and MasterCard we'd need to fuck up their bottom line. And for that, we'd need data.
For example, I don't know how much business the above 2 have with regular people.

In a totally made up and just for discussion fake argument, say the entire planet maxed out their credit cards.
Then, with ZERO assets, everyone declares bankruptcy and the above 2 Credit Cards get squat.
Not knowing where the rest of their assets are, would the duopoly:

-Go into crisis mode?
-Have a bad year?
-Barely notice?

I don't have the info. For all I know, the duopoly doesn't need the rank and file customers but make their money with other companies / corporations.

Someone in the know, please let me know what WOULD affect the bottom line of those 2 companies.
You know, asking for a friend... as purely theoretical conversation... your honour...

You would need trillions of dollars to buy the banks behind the processors, or get enough political power to change your country laws.

Never a good thing to have payment processors locking people out of getting paid over politics.. so it's great to see someone coming to fill that vacuum...

Can't answer everything but I work in electronic payments so...

Probably nothing. Visa and MasterCard operate and make money from payment processing infrastructure. When you get a credit card and start swiping, Visa is not lending you the money to do that. Another entity, such as an , issued you the card and holds or lends you the money. But they in turn have an arrangement with Visa where the card they give you is branded as a Visa card, and the transactions are carried out on Visa's system; Visa makes sure the funds are moved from your account with the issuing bank to the merchant's account with their acquiring bank.

So my guess is that if everyone maxes out their credit limits and declares bankruptcy, Visa and MasterCard shrug, because they already made their money off every transaction you paid to max the card out. You might drive some banks underwater before the government stepped in to say "no ****** way" I guess.

  • A mass shift to a form of electronic payments processing that doesn't depend on them (maybe one day, currently improbable)
  • Severe governmental interference, such as forcible splintering into smaller companies (not likely, would cause mayhem and it's much more convenient for most commerce to have minimal variation and maximum consistency)
  • Total reversion to cash transactions (lol nope)
I don't really think Visa and Mastercard is a fight you can win, or even really pick to start with. Certainly not for an extremely atomized niche industry like porn games. Finding a way to tiptoe around them is probably the best option; be interesting to see how this turns out for DLSite. No idea if it's something they could expand if it works out, could be they'd get hammered by international regulations.

What everyone here and DLsite has skipped over is the next wave that has started already which is the child safety laws then the karens and govt. With that gone bye you got the middle east buying/controlling way to much.

Its good to hear they got one problem somewhat solved but the others are right around the corner.

Putting "xxx DESTROYS xxx" in the title is a typical sensationalist buzzword/clickbait headline (usually used by political news/YouTubers) which for me personally is a sure fire way from preventing me watching a video.

but it's a good alternative way to buy the sites games.
Well... from one of the linked articles...
But Minna no Bank is a Japan-only operation, so this new payment method won't be available to overseas customers.
It's not even usable for non-japanese people.

Hence I said games from that site, and I never bought any as their untranslated Japanese games.

I guess it sucks for those who want to buy those games outside Japan. 🤷‍♂️

I buy on dlsite for a long time, they already bypassed visa and mc with their coin system and titles blocked for the west are easily accessible using VPN.

Shit even buying something on a shelf is hard now let alone in japan ha ha

2 weeks ago i walked in a local dealer to get a new snowblower last one killed by a flood anyhow 0 in stock they only can get 4 shit luck one was my model i got to wait a month maybe more comes from usa well yeah that situation so receipt in hand had to pay cash visa over 1k was a extra fine.

I would not be surprised in my life time we half to get a license to buy goods downtown at this rate make sure the items are not a danger to others like a rake or shovel.

This alone will not destroy visa and mastercard but you are starting to see countries trying to create their own alternatives. You have Brazil for example, they have their own payment processor called pix and they are expanding to other countries.

Japan was quite isolated from the western processors already, they had options to do things like pay for all sorts of online things in cash at 7-11/Famimart/Lawson. This just helps them move a little more into the digital age and combat the growing influence of Visa/Mastercard.

Hopefully something more neutral can be implemented worldwide, but given the way the things are going, I doubt it. Too many people want control one way or the other.

The truth is Japan is tired of us. We try to police what you can and can't view, what is problematic and what should be censored. Why would they want to deal with it?

They are "policing" much more than others , they literally have every porn censored lol. They are much more restrictive towards foreigners, they allow 3D realistic stuff if creator is from Japan but they don't allow me on DLsite/Fanbox etc. Just cos they allow lolis that doesn't mean they allow everything or allow more.

  • In 2024 Visa processed 233.8 billion transactions for a total payment volume of $13.2 trillion and made a net revenue of $35.9 billion (all numbers around 10% higher than prior year).,
  • For MasterCard in 2024 they processed 159.4 billion transactions, for a total volume of $9.8 trillion and made a net revenue of$28.2 billion (all numbers around 11-12% higher than prior year).

No way you can bankrupt Visa/MC quickly and without having the rest of the world be in even worst straits.
Alternative payment methods/processors are the way but... Visa/MC are known to immediately threaten to blacklist whoever takes that step. It can work for DLSite because they're already pretty much blacklisted by them but any other business (such as Steam as mentioned in some articles) they would need to somehow switch almost overnight AND their client base must be ok with the change which also means the process itself can't be (much) more complex that it previously was.

why do they literally have every porn censored ??
this is the question.

and if everyone on earth is using servers in japan to get paid for porn that is not censored than is that not illegal in japan ??

Their censorship is a leftover from an old era that nobody dared to change because nobody wants to be "that guy". They barely even enforce it, often creators will give you uncensor patch via mail if you ask, the thing is officially everything is censored because technically they can hunt you for it. Also yes, if I was DLsite I would also not want foreigners with loli content there, why would they accept you if your own country doesn't or view it as problematic at best?

Sadly I don't foresee this meaning much for westerners until itch.io and/or subscribestar do it too.

Tell that to the "IV? AV!" guy who wasn't allowed to update the game on DLSite because it was too easy to decensor. Japan is weird and seemingly random about what is/isn't allowed and how the rules are enforced. Very much a social/"don't get noticed or rock the boat" sort of thing.
