I learned the basics at school then thanks to music, movies and series. VNs came way later.

Even as an English speaker sometimes I actually learn new words that become part of my vocabulary. You could say that these games are more educational than sex ed sometimes.

Well I learn english watching movies, so I practice to VN too.
I'm grateful to be a fast learn.
My reading skill: totally awesome
My writing skill: normal?¿
My listening skill: I can't hear.

No one seems to believe you can pickup a language from the movies ;-;

I started watching movies with subtitles in the first grade, and by the third grade, I was able to read/listen properly.
For writing, I would skip ahead in school material a few chapters, and it got to the point where I bought the next year's school workbooks just to finish them early in the summer.

After a year of me watching videos and reading on forums (4chan and Reddit mostly), somehow I came to understand the language. Which surprised me, because I was not exactly the brightest one in foreign languages in school, 5/10 was my average.

I definitely learned a lot of english while playing video games, rpg among other things, like others in this thread. But books is how I got much further. I'm not as good speaking it unfortunately...
