Overview:
Rei, (Default name.) the main character, is a girl or guy who travel from their town to the city to study the career of photography in the university. Rei is active, lively and has a radiant personality, what they like, the way that they think about certain topics and how innocent they are depends on you, the player. Rei wants to study hard, have good notes and complete their career, love is not something in their plan, however, that changes when a clumsy girl appear in their life…
They meet Evangeline, a shy girl who appears to be nervous about everything. At the beginning you don't know what is the deal with her, why she acts defensive all the time, don't talk too much or is reserved about herself, something that with the time changes. Spend time with Evangeline, talk with her using different dialogue options, be part of cute events that sometimes deal with every day occurrences and other times with problems, have small interactions with her that improve her self-esteem and see how she opens more to you every day. Wow, this one really gets in your head... STRONG Katawa Shoujo vibes here. Evangeline is absolutely adorable, and yet she's so fragile inside that you can't help but empathize with her and fall for her. She's the kind of girl that you want to bring home to Mom (and that option seems to be on the horizon at my current point in my playthrough,) but it seems you could also break her entirely if you play things jsut exactly the wrong way. I'll never know about that option for certain, since there's no way I could be mean enough to this girl to cause such a bad end, but the storyline hints that it could turn that direction. Fair warning, there's some feels involved here: This is definitely NOT a fap-fest.
All that aside, there are a few translation issues here and there: the UI on the Info screen has some critical areas left untranslated, specifically the parts that tell you how to use the thing. Since it seems to be pretty much custom-designed, that left me flailing around a bit til I figured out how to switch between all the info sections. There's also a few tiles in the story that got missed by the translator -- not a big thing, it happens pretty often when games are translated from one language to another, but worth letting the devs know about. I'm holding off with actually rating and reviewing this one til after those are fixed, because they would cost the game a star that it otherwise well deserves.
SO -- informal-type not-a-real-rating summary here lol: Writing is a solid 4.5/5. There's some repitition that could probably be done away with, but it seems that may have a purpose as a place to insert various QOL events, so I won't deduct anything for that. 4.5 is about as high as I go unless something just absolutely blows my mind, so very well done here. Art is sort of a double-edged sword with this one: on the one hand, more color and detail would look really nice. On the other hand though, the B/W with only the eyes colored sets a certain tone for the storyline, and it really really works -- so well that it completely nerfs the previous point about more color looking nice, because it focuses the reader's attention on the story, where it belongs here. So: a solid 4/5 for Art. Overall I'm gonna go with a 4 at this point, with the caveat that cleaning up the translation will put a 5 within firing range. A 4.5/5 would be certain, except that there doesn't seem to be a way to award half-stars
Only one pet peeve i spotted: I ended up sticking with using Evangeline's full name, even though being Southern I much prefer using a shorter nickname, simply because neither of the shorter options presented made any sense to me. "Evan" is typically a male nickname in English and Evangeline is clearly female, so I couldn't go with that one, and I don't even remember what the other one was. "Eva," "Angel," or even "Lin/Lina" would have worked better for English-speakers. (Or you can just let us keep using a particular one of his pet names for her, like "Princess" lol... calling her something like that in public would definitely make it clear that the two of them were solidly "Together" ) Anyhow, that was my one and only gripe with the game itself, cause I gotta find soemthing somewhere since there's no such thing as total perfection
