Don't they cost a small fortune now, even if you don't get anything to eat or drink?

the ticket prices are high. regular ticket is 20 dollars. And you reserve and pick them up. You pick a seat in advance. Imax is much more expensive. Last I checked I think matinee was like 15.95 or something. You can deal with uncomfortable seats, expensive snacks. a dirty theater and restroom, and generally rude people. If they made the experience better, I could see paying a premium to see a film rarely. A lot of new movies aren't worth seeing. It isn't like when I was in High School, you would go once or twice a week because the ticket prices were low. I also miss variety and not everything being superhero movies. Not everything being a sequel or a remake. When new IP was being created.

i still find them enjoyable but i have to really want to see the movie to go if not ill just watch it at home

Hollywood is the theater's biggest problem if you ask me, so many bad movies nowadays. The higher prices don't help either

Last movie I saw in theaters was this new Superman. It was kinda empty, so it was ok. But going to the theaters in the first week never again.

And I'm not even mentioning the price.

Surprised at so many people that have still been going to movie theaters this century.

My relative works in the film distribution system. She has access to data on the number of tickets sold for a particular screening. A typical scenario is 5-7 tickets for a 280-seat theater. When a blockbuster is showing, the number of tickets sold reaches 50-70 per movie. I am writing from Europe, where people openly say that Marvel and Disney have killed Hollywood. The only American films that are of interest now are independent films, but they are only interesting to a narrow circle of enthusiasts. The situation is no better here. The same endless remakes of remakes, cinemacomics aimed at an audience with the brains of young morons. And there is a very noticeable crisis of scripts, new ideas, and new plots. With the advent of the ability to download movies in 4K and 5K format using torrents, i.e., in a quality comparable to what can be seen in a traditional movie theater, movie theater audiences have shrunk significantly. Cinema will not die—during the golden age of cinema, many wonderful films were made that will forever remain classics, but it will become purely a home entertainment.
And I apologize for any mistakes, English is not my native language, I use a machine translator.

does your countries has different pricing for weekdays or weekend ? as much i wanted to support local movies and theaters, i usually went in the weekdays. it's cheaper and less noise

Last time I was in the theatre was in 1993. It was way too loud, so I see my films on tv at an acceptable volume.

not dead but low on people.
Movies arent good nowadays, tickets are expensive cause inflation, Only blockbuster movie run somewhat to hold the theater.

Too expensive, plus you can watch it at home way more easily than back in the day

We have no difference in prices between weekdays and weekends. There is a price difference between morning/afternoon/evening seances.

I went to the movies for 28 Year later a ok movie with a lot of Dicks I enjoy the experience as last time was 2007 but I was in a uncaring mood at the time trying to stay distracted so I spent 100 dollars for that one time and put everything on a credit card and was rack up other debt only when I left that mood I swear I will never buy theater food again but the AMC massive pretzel was pretty good.

Yeh totally, I think the last time I went to the cinema was before 2020. I wasn't allowed in the cinema, so I stopped going, after 1.5 year or so I didn't even care anymore. And I save a lot of money, which I didn't have anyways...

And I believe I'm not alone, I don't know anyone anymore who has been to the movies in the last few years...

I rarely ever go anymore unless its something I think should be seen on the big screen. I think its a combo of factors like price, streaming availability, and movie quality that has started to make people not want to go as much.

watching a movie in an empty theater is awesome, the problem is the other viewers yelling, looking at their cellphones, walking in front of you, kicking your seat etc

I hope not but with the WB. Netflix merger it is worrying. I still like seeing real movies in a theater. It's not that expensive, at least where i live

Not for me. I still enjoy the experience. I just don't treat myself to it as much as I used to.
