Ah glad you asked this. More or less. More populous areas and tourist areas still see their theatres holding on for dear life. That said, I live in a tourist area and a family member of mine worked at the theatre here for a time. It was fairly dead most of the time. They were lucky to do one hundred people in a day.

A lot of theatres now are only staying afloat because they rent out their theatres as event spaces.

Also concerning cost, it differs. A lot of them charge $11+ nowadays, but most chains have a discount day as well.

Referencing my above post, this bit specifically:

So if you take a facility that has 10 separate theatres and say they're open from noon to 10pm(more are, afaik, open later) 100 people spread out over 8 theaters in a 10 hour period is laughable.

So IF you average 10 people an hour for 10 hours, your occupancy per individual theatre is 1 per hour.

Of course each of those is reported to corporate at the end of the day along with concession sales. But just movie tickets alone, even at $14(or more) a ticket in some places, you have theatres pulling $140 an hour. For a facility the size of a standard movie theatre, this is miniscule. Many of these theatres are in disrepair now.

That's where the (relatively?)new theatre experience comes in! Cine-bistros! I believe CMX has several.

However if you want a premium experience, look for the Alamo theatres. These are basically sit down dinner and a movie, with excellent food. They typically show both old and new movies. What's more, you can rent or borrow(think they have a membership library like system) old and new movies on VHS, DVD, or Bluray.

Haven't been to the theatre forever but I do enjoy it and do feel they are dying a bit. It's not the same experience sitting at home vs the big screen and sound but there are way more people at that homebodies now. Deadpool is coming out, I'll probably go see that in theatres.

As for movies in general, I do enjoy them and don't pick at them too much. I just enjoy them for what they are and yes I still enjoy the newer marvel movies. No point in being too fussy, it's like would people rather them not make anything at all? Just see way too much negativity out in the world and at times there's no point to it. Sure the story could be weak or cg isn't all that great but I'm sure they put out their best so just enjoy it.

Yes, 15 years ago I went to the cinema once a week with a friend, there were good things to see and the price allowed it, gradually we went less until we stopped going, today not only is it more expensive but the political propaganda and Pervasive mediocrity makes it almost impossible to find something worthwhile to see. I only go between 1 and 3 times a year more or less, the last one I saw was Dune Part 2 and I loved it.

I can only talk abt the way I stee it in my country, but imo going to the movies is by far the best way to experience ANY movie, the problem (at least here) is that its to damn expensive, both the ticket and the amenities

Some movies are amazing on the big screen, and crowd energy is also a factor. The issue is, to make up for lost revenue, the prices of concessions and the rest has just made it so prohibitive.

Everyone here is basically right.

1. Hollywood has gotten stale over the past couple of decades and just reuses old stories/tropes.
2. The independent film industry is almost non-existent due to cost now.
3. The Pandemic/Lockdown basically forced people into finding alternatives (streaming etc) and many have stayed there.
4. The movie going experience is not the same anymore because crowd cohesion has been destroyed due to social agendas in films.

The largest one that sealed the fate of Hollywood was the inclusion of D.I.E. (Deadly Insanity of Elves). The social engineers have basically ruined the film experience. They even got the Oscars to go full racial retard. Just to prove that it's not a conspiracy theory I am linking from THEIR own website their standards.

It is status based not merit. Since movies don't want to skirt the line of being rejected for oscar nomination they OVER diversify (even past the limits mentioned) to the point where you get something that does not represent the country the movie was made in.

If the movie is for a wider audience maybe, but making an English classic with black actor leads (you know what I'm talking about) just smacks of cultural appropriation and is so jarring that no sane person with an IQ over 70 can even watch it.


I find it interesting to watch this dumpster fire. Alienate an entire demographic (white males) and see what happens.. Oh yeah you get complete grid failure like South Africa.

I only wonder which country will pick up the mantle as the new Hollywood since nature abhors a vacuum. I kind of think Shanghai or maybe bollywood. We will see.

With the rise in streaming and piracy we have so many means to see movies without leaving home. Add to that how cheap huge TVs are now it's easy to enjoy a large format movie at home.
Plus covid made it clear to everyone we don't need to go out for our enjoyment.
As such theaters are closing all over the world.
Life changes we all move on. Some kicking and screaming, some with acceptance.

While it is enjoyable to watch an action movie on the big screen, it has just gotten far too expensive to be worth it. The nearest movie place to me is like 40-50mins away. So when you factor in gas, price of admission and if you get food or a drink and all of a sudden you're spending 40+ bucks, it is just no longer worth the price.

I’m never seeing a movie in the theater ever again for multiple reasons:

1-I’m an old fuck. Gotta piss every 40 minutes. Weirdly, the theater won’t pause for me. Streaming (phrasing) will.

2-Expensive AS FUCK. A few bucks for streaming for the gang. OR… ticket price PER person, plus gas, plus parking, plus SOMEONE gives in and eats/drinks the overpriced shit at the stand.

3-“The Message”. Movies have always had messaging. I just don’t like the current messages. Why pay to be pissed off?

4-Gaming. Most games, even on potato computers like mine, offer gaming AND near-TV like quality (movie quality for high end computers). AND, I get to press the “DON’T BE FUCKING STUPID!” button WAY more times than ANY protagonist in Hollywood.

Depends on the movie and the quality of the movie theater. I usually make an effort for IMAX. Or if the theater has the reclining armchair seats that serve food and drinks. Forget the theaters where you're in sketchy neighborhoods where kids are yelling at the screen and talking during the movie.

But it's great when the crowd goes wild during intense action scenes or laughs during the comedic ones. Really gets you into the movie at times.

Haven't been to the movie theater in years honestly no point when half the stuff coming out is not that interesting to me... also i usually just watch anime as my go to for movies or tv shows. But my opinion is they are dead or going to be in a few years the streaming market is overwhelming them and it costs a lot to run them not to mention streaming services are doing their own thing and making new movies they make only available to watch on their service and not releasing a physical copy or putting them in theaters anymore.
