discussion Anyone else hate textbox opacity?

For me it's a love & hate situation. As I don't enjoy reading text without the box, but sometimes the front and colors are just off.

I do not like having a textbox where I can not adjust the opacity. Admittedly, in some games having a limited textbox that you can easily see through so you do not miss what is behind it does help in reading the text, but overall I adjust opacity to zero if I can, or if adjusting is not an option I prefer no textbox.

I don't particularly hate opaque text boxes, but I hate it when a game covers its beautiful artwork behind it without an option to hide the text box. Looking at you, RPG Maker games.

I am indifferent to this problem - it doesn't bother me personally. After all, there is the H key.

Does anyone else hate textbox opacity where they have the dark box around the text & covers most of the scenes? I hate it so much that ive found a script to remove it & i modify it for games that it doesnt work on such as summertime saga, also removes quick menu tool bar which is ugly too. Glad to see new games allowing the option to lower it to 0% and disable quick menu.

I know for most Renpy games, you have the ability to use the middle mouse button or H to hide the text box, but yes, especially when the scene has something get covered up by the text box

mostly transparent/translucent is best where it doesn't obstruce the scene.
greatly appreciate when the dev has a custom slider to adjust it


constantly hitting H is annoying as it'll stop scene progession

I'm the same - I appreciate the option for *some* opacity to make text more readable - the worst is if there's only one option and that's 100% opacity though.

Alguém mais odeia a opacidade da caixa de texto onde eles têm a caixa escura ao redor do texto e cobrem a maioria das cenas? Eu odeio tanto que encontrei um script para removê-la e modifiquei para jogos em que ela não funciona, como Summertime Saga, também remove a barra de ferramentas do menu rápido, que também é feia. Fico feliz em ver novos jogos permitindo a opção de reduzi-la para 0% e desabilitar o menu rápido.

Gosto de entender o texto, embora o diálogo às vezes não faça sentido.

If the Dev works and wants to have everyone enjoy the art of the game, the parts hidden should not be the important parts.

I like having the option to get rid of it especially when the box takes up too much space.

I especially love those games where the tex box covers almost a third of the screen and has the opaqueness of welders glass.

I agree giving the option to lower it to 0% is a key item for me to even think about playing a game if it doesn't have that option i don't play it.

Yeah, it can be annoying when it’s too transparent and hard to read, or too opaque and blocks the background. A good balance or an adjustable option would be ideal.

it can be annoying but there is usually/sometimes a setting to adjust it

Feel it's needed for most games, cause in certain lighting text is hard to read sometimes. That said every game should have an opacity slider. The fact that some don't is insanely stupid for how easy it is to add into renpy
