discussion Anyone else hate textbox opacity?

Does anyone else hate textbox opacity where they have the dark box around the text & covers most of the scenes? I hate it so much that ive found a script to remove it & i modify it for games that it doesnt work on such as summertime saga, also removes quick menu tool bar which is ugly too. Glad to see new games allowing the option to lower it to 0% and disable quick menu.

I actually prefer it so I can see the text clearly, in the scenes I just press H to hide the text box and that's it

I really love when devs put an option to configure it.
That said, I prefer no box at all.

You can often get a standalone mod for that via URM, at least for RenPy VNs, but, yes it can be very annoying. Doing an older VN now that has completely obscuring text boxes and isn't conducive to a mod. And it isn't a small box - takes about 2/3rd of the center of the lower 25% of the screen.

Textbox transparency mod to the rescue. Anyways, hate it. Annoying and immersion breaking. Pressing H is an option yes, but really would prefer If I do not have to.

Makes things easier to read. Really doesn't need to be solid though, I prefer to set it almost transparent with a slider/mod.

I prefer when a dev uses legible text with no box - barring that, I prefer an opaque text-box with "H" key used. And really, the box is only really noticeable when the action is going on the the lower part of the screen. Some games I don't even notice it's there. Others, I'm clicking H each screen ;-p

I like it but with it almost see through. Enough to where I am not missing any of the picture, but enough to where it still remains easy to read to avoid eye strain.

It depends on what the background is like, bright text on a bright background sucks.
Dark boxes in somewhat dark environments seem a bit pointless.

I use a pair of mods to put textbox opacity at 0% and remove Quick Menu. Source = Can't say. Sites we can't mention here.
Yes, H works for the picture, but you want the text (ex: Incest dialogue for me, NTR dialogue for those who like that, etc...) you have to find another option.

I prefer to have the box because without it I can read for shit. All games can hide the whole dialogue, but not all games that the dev made it invisible have an option to show it back.
For me the best case scenario is when the dev is aware of the textbox location and tries to render the images as to not hide anything important (the pussy, for example).

Yes! Any time there is an option to turn opacity down, I utilized it.

Of course it can be annoying, which is why there is often a setting to change it
