No a fan but maybe enjoyer. I like 10th doctor which played by David Tennant.

Watched from the start of #9 up until the early days of #12, where I thought the writing quality had been going down.

I've heard about this but never had time to invest in it, what's about?

I stopped watching around the time of Peter Capaldi. (?) Can anyone tell me if it was good?

LOL, I initially misunderstood and thought it was just poorly written English :ROFLMAO:

The Peter Capaldi Doctor was when then quality of writing dropped more consistently and quickly. Yes, Dr. Who has been somewhat political in the past. BUT the STORY quality was good, so the politics were not as blatant. Honestly, I think the writing was actually starting to drop in quality around the end of the 'Impossible girl' arc and got worse after that.

Sadly (like a lot of entertainment now) the 'message' and activism have become the most important things, followed by flashy effects, and other things to try and hide the POOR or bad story and writing. Of course, when they brought in Chinballs and Whittaker the quality dropped even more.

WHY they thought making Chinballs (he wrote 2 episodes before being showrunner, they were BAD and disliked if not hated) the person in charge is confusing. Whittaker MIGHT have done better with proper witting and direction, but there were MANY other women that could have done a better job.

OK, done ranting about this. To answer the question about Capaldi I would say that there were SOME good shows, more VERY bad shows, and a LOT of mediocre shows.

Just a thought

Next season releasing may 11th. Hope its good. I do like the new doctor, just worried the writing is going to let them down like it did during the shitnail era.
I always loved Doctor Who, but now it's another propaganda machine. The new stuff will look amazing, but it will be the most woke non-Doctor Who thing you've ever seen.

Haven't watched it in a while but I enjoyed while I did! Capaldi and Tennant were superb. Have you ever seen the video on YouTube showing how they made the theme for the original series? It's fascinating stuff, making all those sci-fi sounds using 1960's tech.

enjoyable show but can never really remember what happens

I watched Tom Baker on PBS. You want to date something that had to be early to mid 1980s, long after his run ended in 81. But he was very much the 1970s Doctor. And picture quality it was very much sub VHS. Over the air broadcast. Cheesy effects and fun story lines, but pure kid stuff if you were the right age. Back as kids everyone wanted to either be the Doctor or the companion. If it was that way for American kids i can imagine British kids must have been over the moon for the show.

I also watched a bit of the David Tennant stuff, because a friend was very into it. But I abandoned it after the next actor took over.

before the "politics" took a backseat and it was story driven ever since lady doctor its been the story taking the backseat and its just political garbage now..., i don't blame the actress she did the best she could do with the script... but the script is so bad no one can save it...

Started watching new who and stopped watching when Chibnall became main writer. ten was my favourite doctor.

Started watching with the new restarted seasons, and I have to admin Rose Tyler steals the show for me from the doctor. Light crush on Billie Piper :D
Just finished S2 and really sad now.

Yeah i liked her in Attack the Block and Broadchurch. She was awful as the Doctor, but i liked the last episode she was in it was decent. The series over all was poorly written. It wasn't a complete loss though, even in less than spectacular seasons you can like the companion but think the Doctor is a total miscast.

Started in the late 70s with Tom Baker, had a huge crush on Elizabeth Sladen(RIP). Stopped when Davison left. Started back with and through Tennant. Left again with the departure of Piper, who I wanted to mount. For those interested BBC has remastered the series and is running a live feed Dr Who channel on Amazon Prime. Picture and sound very good. Efects are still cheesey but damn I still watch it.
