This is a conversation I did not expect to see today. I'm glad I read some of this thread.

Now we wait for a purists to come in and tell you that there are only 4 Pokemon games: Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
We do not talk about Green

Aaaaand we're back

I hated that mini-game in Yakuza 0, always lost like fifty times before i could win just for the game to "reward" me with a goddamn napkin

We just have to keep up the grind until the promised day!
Gotta keep on it, though it'll take weeks at this point. Anyone have any interesting threads to post in?

My favorite breakfast is a beef burger with a glass of black tea.
My favorite is french toast with a side of bacon. And just giving out likes on refresh to help anyone out

I stay away from a lot of Pokémon communities for exactly that reason, haha.

But of course, I’m recommending official games here. Now, if I had to recommend the best Pokemon games... The fan-made games from the Spanish-speaking community are by far the best you can find. They obviously have their limitations—they aren’t made by professionals—but as Pokemon games, they’re the best you can play.
My favorite Pokémon ROM hacks are:
1) Pokémon Prism
2) Pokémon Grape
3) Pokémon Polished Crystal
4) Pokémon Crystal Clear
5) Pokémon Unbound
6) Pokémon Glazed
7) Pokémon Emerald Seaglass
8) Pokémon Brown

I'm not talking about ROM hacks (and with all due respect, aside from a very few exceptions, I think most of them are bad); I'm talking about games made entirely from scratch using the Pokémon Essentials tool.

is there a place to pirate old Pokémon game on pc? I played some when I was a kid that i would like to replay.
There's a subreddit for games that are no longer sold: r/abandonware

There are plenty, but honestly, knowing what’s currently in production, I’d rather wait for fan games to play those titles. For example, if I wanted to play the first generation, I wouldn’t play Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, or LeafGreen; I’d play Pokemon Añil, which is basically an enhanced version of the first generation, with more content and improvements.

Pokémon Royal, set in the Galar region, is also in production, as is Pokémon Meteoro for the Hoenn region. Recently, the creator of Pokémon Añil announced Pokémon Ocre, set in Johto, and there is also Pokémon Platino Refulgente for Sinnoh.
But as it stands, of all of them, the only one completed so far is Pokémon Añil; the rest are still in production.

Here's a short trailer for Pokémon Plattino Refulgente

Okay all you Poke-people. You seem to be very knowledgeable so I'll give this a shot. I'm Pokemon illiterate. I think I played one of the NES ones for maybe an hour, just grinding in a field. I can put a few names to pictures via cultural osmosis. Is there a game you'd recommend for me? I'd like to try to understand the appeal. If the appeal is "a grindy collectathon rpg", I can dig that if it's done well. If the appeal is "a grindy collectathon rpg with a complicated evolution/breeding mechanic that exponentially increases the grind by chasing small percentage odds", that's probably a turn-off unless the gameplay itself is fun enough on its own. If the appeal is something else... well idk but I'm open to being surprised!

I'm very much in the same boat, have never played or watched Pokemon

So yeah... not a Pokemon veteran "best game ever" pick. But a "most approachable" for a noob recommendation would be appreciated lol
i started in gen 3 which was ruby, sapphire. that was simple enough i terms of collection, and combat

Do you want something more modern or are you alright with retro stuff

No issues with retro at all. But if old vs new Pokemon are totally different categories, maybe two recommendations is the way to go?

For retro I would say pokemon emerald, and for more modern games either ultra sun or ultra moon on the 3ds
