I used to do rocks or mixers in college, but a family friend was pouring Crown one night and I said I was going to get a Coke - he told me if I wanted to drink from his bottle I could drink it neat, rocks, or with a splash of water, but not any kind of cola or mixer. Since then, I've gone neat with either a small chip or a few drops of water to open up the flavors for most hard liquors - at least those that are "decent".

I'll still make a Rusty Nail, whiskey sour, margarita, martini, rum drinks, or other cocktails from time to time, but don't do the cola thing anymore or heavy ice unless the drink calls for it (margarita, for instance).

I sort of had the opposite experience where I did things I didn’t like to be “cool” or “correct” and eventually acquired a taste for it haha. Same with smoking - which I have long since quit.

Mixed drinks and cocktails are fun too but better on occasion or when I’m only having 1. Edit: whiskey sour is a great drink - good pick for a cocktail. I’ll have to read up on the rusty nail and see if it sounds good.

Random thought of the night:

Been in the habit for a while of having a snack & something to sip some time between 9 and 10 each evening and, as I reached for the tea mug a few minutes ago, to find it empty, I had the thought: wouldn't it be great if we could have a simple magic in the world where you could tap your beverage container - in this case a tea mug - and it would refill with the beverage you were drinking, perfect temp and flavor. For tea, for example, that would mean the right length of steep, right amount of sugar and milk - I don't do the milk, but I know some do - etc., and it would refill like that as many times as you liked. Tea, coffee, soda, anything, unlimited refill potential for the evening.

The only limit I'd put on it is the spell would be to only allow two refills for hard liquor/heavy cocktails, and five refills for wine or beer - don't want to get myself drunk or have a hangover the next day! I don't do those that often, but usually if I have one, I often want a second.

And a little charcuterie charm for those times when its wine, and maybe a wings, fried pickles or poppers charm for when I'm having beer.

Since the tea is gone, maybe I'll just pour a Crown, some of the good rum, or a single malt.

I think I'd prefer either the "Clean" or "Shave" (reversed "Hairy") cantrips over that, if I had to choose. Although considering my level of neatness "Gather" would be an excellent choice too.

I mean the ability to point at the dishes in a kitchen (or other... room... not like I leave dishes at my desk or by my bedside or anything... ) and have them all be clean would be nifty. Being able to also wash windows and floors... walls... decks... gutters... at a command word would be great!

Picking up and sorting stuff with "Gather" would rock (I just dropped a glass... "gather" the shards, or holy crap that's a messy desk "gather" the papers, then the pens, etc.) and being able to remove hair for several days (or grow it!) is ... handy too.

Well, as long as I'm wishing anyway.

The only thing coke can really be used with is rum... rum and coke is OK. I have some bottles here at home that will never be anywhere near a cola!

Lots of friends still like Jack and Coke, and if they hand me one, I'll drink it, though I won't do it with Crown anymore. But, yeah, a Cuba Libre is about the only cola drink I'd readily order if the mood hit me. I will do something like Fresca with rum - an ex got me started on that.

Ballentine's (or other blended Scotch) and Drambuie, 2:1, on the rocks, twist of orange. If I don't have fresh oranges, I'll use a dash of Triple Sec - orange liqueur for any that might not know and something that anyone that makes margaritas without a pre-mix will have. It's a nice change of pace now and then.

So, I was on Civitai, and I can see that in a few years, the only people complaining about AI art will be the artists. Some of those animations are smooth. It wasn't even that long ago when AI videos looked like a bunch of similar-looking images. Now, you can get a few-second video that looks pretty legit, other than a few things.

It's sad in a way, and makes me feel like traditional art, other than concept sketches for the AI to follow, will be mostly dead. Sort of like horse riding after the invention of cars, only kept alive due to people specifically wanting to ride a horse, despite it being slower and more expensive.

I think traditional art will fall into a similar place, with it mostly in demand due to people wanting original human-made art, despite it being more expensive and slower to produce.
The situation makes me feel nestalgic? kind of sad?

What do y'all think about the situation? Will my prediction happen in a few years? or do you think the whole thing isn't going to happen because an orange man destabilized global trade, and the stock market sees a crash similar to the dot.com but for Ai ending mostly ending development? or how do you feel about the AI?

Skip the Triple sec... and use Cointreau instead... way better

Photography replaced portratists, recorded music replaced live performers, video replaced live actors, etc. but only to an extent. All still have their places, and those places are still where they always were: with those who could pay for them. What the LLM ("A.I.") production really does is what the camera did: allow anyone so inclined to make useful images at will rather than have to find an expert do it for them. The LLM's replace those experts for general cases and the experts will be in demand for specific cases, and only by the (somewhat) rich (as was the case 85% of the time anyway).

In short, LLM image production puts 'artistic license' in the hands of anyone willing to pick up the LLM 'camera' and make a picture, 'democratizing' art much the same way the camera (especially camera phone) eventually did.

Cointreau IS a triple sec - and the one I happen to keep in my bar and use.

You beat me to it -- While all Cointreau is triple sec, not all triple sec is Cointreau. Cointreau is known for its better balance and higher alcohol content and it happens to be the one I keep in the cupboard - Normally I drink it straight up as an after dinner shot.
