Honestly, don't think too much about it unless you intend to be a long-term regular of the forums.
If you plan on being a forum regular, however, choosing a pfp and "persona" that you feel matches who you are is the way to go, in my opinion.
Before I had a Silco pfp, I had my username locked down because "Lazarus" is a name I feel I resonate with as I feel like I have metaphorically died and been resurrected in my life before.
The Silco pfp and association came later after I became more active, but I chose him as someone that has more than a little bit of a dark side but is also a family man that never expected to end up in that position (which I resonate strongly with - for different reasons than Silco, but still)
All in all, I feel like I embody the name and the chosen character fairly well and decided this is my forum identity.
If there is anything that comes to mind that helps you craft an identity, use that. Otherwise, don't overthink it.
