Gnomes are definitely a fun-sized choice. Goblins would be too, but probably more chaotic.

It seems we share the same answer, beastfolk would be my first choice.
In second and third place, I would think maybe Fairies (as in small pixie, not as the "make a pact and good luck if you ever try to break it" creatures), and maybe Elves (including dark elves...) , but it would probably depend if they would be the "Kneel you lowly human" or not...

I'd accept the "kneel lowly human" types. Not like they'd do any worse than current world "leaders" if they took over everything.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.

Sunday is Funday in my house. Everyone gets to enjoy doing whatever they like but the rule is that whatever you do, you have to invite someone else to join you. No one is forced to accept, but the door has to be open.

I came home from work early to the sound of my kids watching musicals (they were watching some musical rendition of Shrek I never knew about). My wife was in the bedroom reading alone, but told me our youngest girl joined her for a while. The girls wanted to take the day to spend time with their brother after what happened last night. They ended up binging a bunch of musicals and watching Les Misérables together, allowing me to still choose what to watch next week (it'll be my turn).

For the last few hours, me and the wife have been enjoying Projekt: Passion together and I've been catching up on the backread here and there.

With the backread complete and my wife sound asleep, it's time for the replies:

I'm not the biggest fan of musicals either, but if my kid showed interest in them, of course I would try to do the same, if nothing else, then to create some bonding times.
That said, The Greatest Showman is a damn good one...
I'm starting to ramble... Sorry.

I'm definitely biased, but they are wonderful.

I'd like to believe I have done and continue to do a good job raising them.

What bothers me is that this little shit stain managed to damage my son enough that he hesitated in sharing enjoyment of something with me. This one little cunt managed to rattle him enough to doubt his safety net and make him think that enjoying musicals with his sisters made him less of a boy - even potentially in my eyes. Which is completely counter to everything I've ever said or done in raising him.

He's never had a crush, girlfriend or boyfriend that I know of and I made sure to tell him that no matter what his preferences were there, I'd not only support him no matter who it put me at odds with, but I'd be happy for him because as long as he is happy and whoever he chooses makes him happy - then I'm happy too.

My girls are smart and strong. Whatever they have planned, they'll take care of this issue on their own. They're also not bullies. I know my girls and I know that part of the reason they were spending time with this girl is because she was a bit of an outcast among her ritzy family. Maybe she is acting out, who knows, but she acted out against my son and for me that only creates unbridled rage. My girls are better than me by far, once they've done what they think they need to do.. if they see something, I don't doubt for a second they'll show compassion. @Jorund

About Blackheart games...

I first got into them because of the visuals, but I stayed for the story. There’s just something about them that keeps me hooked, even if the themes can be pretty disturbing. I think one big reason is that I’m really good at separating fiction from reality. Like, no matter how messed up something is in a game, I don’t feel it on a deep emotional level - it’s just a story to me.

Also, I’m a pretty timid person in real life, so maybe that plays a part. It’s kind of interesting experiencing something so different from my own personality in a space where nothing is actually at stake. It’s not that I enjoy the bad stuff happening, but more that I find the whole thing compelling in a weird way. As long as it is happening in controlled environment and nobody actually gets hurt.

There’s also just something cathartic about dark stories. I guess it’s similar to watching a really intense movie or reading a heavy book - it makes you feel something different.

If you allow me a counter question, I remember you mentioned you played though Lost Life, how dark would you place it on a scale where Cosy Cafe is 1 and DD is 10?

There is not much yet about that in The Lost Guardian but it seems to enable 2 playthroughs where you either encourage or discourage their atics.

Well, one grew out of it herself, the other... well not so much but it seems has an option to be grounded.

In the end, besides ourselves, family is all we really have.

Me and my wife have gone through a lot of shit and it's made us adamant on ensuring the family we raise is strong, and even stronger together.

Thank you for indulging my curiosity. When you say "As long as it is happening in controlled environment and nobody actually gets hurt." - that's the thing that triggers my protective and wrathful side. This is fantasy, but for some reason it still triggers that side of me.. even a fictional character being used and abused makes my blood boil.

As for Lost Life, please bear in mind I haven't played it in years. Me and my wife played it together back in like 2019/2020 or so. It's been a minute. That said, it's hard to rate for a few reasons:

1.) It's an unspoken narrative. There are no words (that I can remember) in the game - at all.

2.) Player choice. There are darker things you can do in the game that I am aware of, but you don't have to and there are actually built-in ramifications for pushing the LI too far or being abusive. She WILL get revenge if you do so, and this knowledge always made me feel good to know.

3.) I'm not sure a 1-10 scale is a great way to gauge how I feel or judge these things. For example, when the twins were re-introduced in The Lost Guardian and I saw what the one was doing regarding the photoshoot.. pushing the daughter into things.. I felt genuine rage. I wanted to delete the game and never go back, but I didn't because Seath has made a lot of engaging content and I want to give his art a "second chance" if you will. So, in a way - that scene in The Lost Guardian was a 10 for me. It pushed me to the same rage I felt when I tried DD. (Which despite the built-in warnings, the description of the game left me with the impression that there would be the option of player choice to turn the story into a caring one which I am still pissed about.) There's a stark contrast between what Lilith and the twins do in the Guardian series vs. what you can experience in DD but both made me violently repulsed.

..to answer the question, though, I think possibly 3/10? Maybe 4/10?

You can push too far in Lost Life, and walking that line is part of the game but has built-in consequences for going too far.

First, that is so awesome that your kids have each other's backs. Your family sounds really awesome from everything you've said. Having an older sibling supporting you is a amazing thing.

Onto the performing. It's not super glamorous or anything. I am a choral singer for my church and some of the youth wanted to have this song for a service they were leading. They did the solos and the adults sang the choral portions. I've performed what feels like everything from traditional choral arrangements to silly stuff like "Hooked on a Feeling".

Well, as I have said, I am definitely biased but I sure think they're "really awesome".

I felt guilty after seeing the two of them dart straight past me mid-confrontation, realizing I had completely misjudged them.

I haven't spoken with them about it yet but there doesn't seem to be any animosity there. Seems they understood my angle on things and once they knew what had happened they just went straight to the person it mattered to most.

I'm extremely proud of them.

As far as your performance goes, still impressive either way! Me and my family aren't religious but I'd love to see your congregation perform such a service so long as we'd be accepted in your house. <3

And then you are sitting there in front of your pc or phone, typing away thinking about how everything got together nicely .. you know why. Your parents met, and they liked each other very much .. and then they fucked, and there you are.

This is the way of the sleaze, the universe and everything.

I had to deal with my daughter being bullied when she was in grade 10. It was one of the least enjoyable times of my life. Had to have meetings at her school and such. I was such a raging anxious introvert at the time, it was terrible to deal with and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. -- I've always told my kids that I'll always accept them for who they are no matter what.
