I feel you. Been on that (well, my country's equivalent) for many years now. It's normal to feel nervous before, but once it's in there, it starts to feel good.

The best method is to just blindly turn across as many lanes as you need to, everyone behind always honks there horn to appreciate how good it was

I run the open lane looking for the driver nearest the merge point that's paying attention to their phone, going 10mph slower than they should be, and/or leaving enough room for a couple of semis. There's always at least one. Sometimes, they're also the same person that will notice at the last second that they're being passed and speed up because they're a narcissistic dick.
