So I've been kinda delving a little bit more in the BMSS worship and stumbled across The Gates again (no NOT At The Gates, great band completely different genre) and fuck me man. After listening to their EP (before the new album was out) it just hit me and I can't stop. First album is maybe not so much a complete package (unlike idk BMSS where every album feels like one thing) however it is full of bangers. EP is KILLER, love every song on there (I'm not big on the Behrosth split, funny though because that's how I ran into this band again because I was listening to them).
So time to start linking away. For anyone else who's NOT animal, don't worry you might actually find something here you enjoy. But do keep an open mind, this is some funky shit.
I also ran into an old EP I listened to when it came out and kinda enjoyed it since I've been listening to weird music lately anyways so I'll drop that in here too. Be warned though it's almost like a full on parody but it still stays black metal but with a very big dose of dungeon synth/chiptune/videogame midi instruments (whistle solo in the 2nd song is fucking GREAT! And I enjoy the Banjo Kazooie final song). Not going to spoil more but if you are up for something more "heavy" (not really, 1 minute in the album shifts from Black Metal to.. happy party dungeon metal? Who cares put on your wizard hat and you 'll fit in fine). Other then that I guess I've been enjoying the new Hyver stuff (Hyver is a fucking KING but I've explained this before. He's the guy behind Grylle, vocalist in Véhémence etc.) but that's more straight black metal with some folky synths, production on the EP is much better then the album that came out earlier this year but I enjoy both tbh, they're fun listens. Not sure if you'll like it but maybe, it's not THAT rough since the tempo isn't super high but it is still black metal after all..
I'll also leave you with some Count Spookula (his first album Monster A Go-Go is really good) which was released not too long ago but I... idk I like his stuff even with how insanely goofy the whole thing is (there still is some good music there) but the production ehhh.. yeah idk. Some good songs on there though.
And I guess since we are on the synth train here I saw Quest Master was touring EU soon so I guess since it's fresh in my mind I'll drop one of his albums. Be warned: THIS IS DUNGEONSYNTH. Very chill, but complete opposite of everything else.
Anyway... hope you're doing good brother and I think you will really enjoy The Gates, all there stuff is fucking gold. The new album has been blasting since release through my headphones and car speakers, good to sing along too. You might like Quest Master but I'm not sure about Hyver and Old Nick, I will say this is really the only work I can actually fully enjoy by Old Nick since the rest is way worse production and even more of a "meme". Oh, and the new Grylle has been released!!! My copy hasn't come in the mail yet (it comes as an art book

) but there are some teaser songs uploaded, I know you weren't too keen on Grylle but seems this album might be a LITTLE more aproachable due the fact he brought in an actual guitar (bass guitar ONLY) and the drumming is more normalized (kind of). Old Nick maybe sounds just normal black metal (outside the obvious weird logo, band name and song titles) however a minute in and you'll start to see what it's really about. By the time the first song ends you are fully armored up ready to go into battle with that glorious dungeon synth in the background!
I'll make a big list at the bottom here in between spoilers just like I did last time with BMSS to not flood the thread.
For anyone who's interested in this stuff, have an open mind and go in BLIND. Spoiling what hooks you can expect from each album/ep/song can ruin some of the enjoyment of really being mind blown!
I also listened a little more to Edelweiss but eh, obviously I don't care for the whole NS mumbojumbo but they got some good songs (Behind my mask, From Heart to Sun, Gestaposcope, Destined to be Sad especially is great but again.. ruined a little by the political non sense). BUT there is some positive karma in this post seeing Old Nick is on a ANTI NSBM label (so it's like the only CD I got at home that won't be cancelled). I could give you some higher quality rips of some stuff but I'm still waiting for my Edelweiss compilation to come in the mail and same for the new Grylle album (and I don't buy tapes so I got NO actual stuff from Quest Master or the Count, Hyver also not in the mail yet since it's coming with my grylle pre-order). I own all the The Gates stuff but they come without lyrics so.. it would just be for files which I don't think you care for anyway.
If you want to have an easier time listening to all of this shit, just open all of them in another tab (middle mouse button!) and then go to your Youtube history (assuming it's enabled) and voilá you got yourself a "playlist". For anyone other then Animal who read all of this, I admire your passion of reading through awfully written replies like myself. I really dig The Gates and I will NOT spoil anything so I'll just pretend both albums and EP sounds EXACTLY the same so you 'll have to find out if I'm bullshitting you (I am ofcourse).
