don't be! neither of those games are a must play so you are not really missing much. but i would say if you have bg 3 installed you can probably get some fun with it since sex nudity and child killing is very much doable. dos2 does not have this freedom.
Bards get an ability to give an extra short rest, it's really unfortunate that they didn't add a bard companion. Sneak attack is only really fun if you can guarantee advantage like with risky ring, otherwise yeah it's annoying to set up. At this point I just run Asterion with two hand crossbows and the ranged power attack feat.

If you're not familiar with CRPGs I think BG3 is a better entry anyway. The combat and character building is way more straightforward than D:OS 2.

since my party is mainly melee and in these games it generally is best with focusing one target at a time. but eh lowered difficulty to easiest to make combat less inconvenient so i can just get through story. have considered grabbing bard but on lowest difficulty multi-classing is disabled and cant be bothered to raise it so i can double class since i will reach the end one way or the other. (also i killed him)
There's nothing I fear more than a bad adaption of something I like. I need to tap down my expectations, of course not everything can be Peter Jackson's LOTR and he took a long way to get there from Meet the Feebles and Dead Alive/Braindead and having something with a massive budget.
if you mean that in a way of very limited choices then yes. could be better for a newcomer i personally love pathfinder wrath for all the different choices and ways to build a char. also why i loved path of exile
