I think you may have misunderstood the context in which I was placing that quote. I wasn't talking about the writing of a 'proper' story,ie book, movie, TV, etc or the idea of continuity.
I was more meaning along the lines of, how some people will come up with stories about how they got certain scars that are more impressive than the reality. For example maybe I have a scar on my leg that I got whilst drunk and I have no idea how I got it. Instead of telling people that maybe I would tell people I had a motorbike accident when I was younger and nearly lost the leg. Just exaggerating facts sometimes for serious, sometimes for comedic effect.
